Spring Cleaning My Closet | Life

Nothing like the spring season to motivate a body to clean out the house. Declutter. Spring Clean.

And I figured it’s been awhile since I’ve actually touched my closet. It’s been about 2 years since I’ve done a closet clean, even though I felt the urge many times I refrained from tossing while I was pregnant. It’s been about 3 years since I’ve posted about it (you can find that post here…)

It feels so good to go through the mass amount of clothes that I never seem to wear. There’s nothing more depressing than pulling out an item to find that it has a stain or is damaged in some way and you hadn’t gotten rid of it yet. No? Just me? Alright, that’s ok.

I actually filmed a vlog about cleaning out my closet, so if you want to watch it instead of reading about it check it out below! If not, keep on reading!

So, I keep my clothes in a dresser with some items hanging up in the closet. I purchased the dresser a couple months ago from IKEA and I love having the deeper drawers. They fit so much more than my old dresser did.

I keep shirts, sweaters, pants, underwear/lingerie in the dresser; dresses, dress shirts, and cardigans get hung up in the closet. I threw out a lot of tank tops that are old, t-shirts that have holes, or stains, and underwear that just look tired. I plan on donating anything that is still in good condition but I just don’t wear anymore.

Anyways, I’m getting sidetracked.

Most of my pants and jeans are all good. They’re fairly recent purchases and I feel super comfortable and happy in them. I tried on my dress shirts and they all still fit perfectly so they get to stay. One has a stain from I don’t even know what, so that’ll go to the dry cleaners as well.

Going through my shirts I realize that I have a lot of black and white tees and tanks. Or grey. Oddly enough the graphic tees I have now are my grey tees. I’m ok with this though. I have gone through and am planning on donating a bunch of my sweaters. A lot of them are hand-me-downs from when my grandmother passed and after a couple seasons with them I know which ones I like and which I am ready to part with.

I tried on all my dresses and I am planning on selling a couple of my dresses that don’t fit because they are just too nice to donate! I’ll just take them to get dry-cleaned so that they are nice and fresh. But they’ll be going to consignment, so someone else will be able to get some awesome use from them (hopefully).

I probably should be donating more of the dresses, but I don’t have the heart to part with them yet. I’m sure in the next one they’ll be hitting the donate pile if I don’t wear them. I also have a bunch of seasonal/pyjamas/horse riding stuff that I went through. It’s necessary but not an everyday item.

My Overall Thoughts

Looking at my wardrobe now, I think that I need to get another skirt. I’ve wanted an A-line midi skirt for quite some time, but haven’t found any that I liked. My basics are pretty much covered, and everything is pretty seamless. I have nice jeans, dress outfits, casual wear. I will try to “shop my wardrobe” more, but it’s tough when 90% of the time I’m at home wearing pyjamas.

Maybe one day I’ll be back to dressing nicely? What are your thoughts on my closet?

A side note about Andrew’s stuff: I do regularly go through his clothing. Most of his clothing turns into “work wear”; his t-shirt drawer gets a little out of control. I throw out the worst offenders (holes AND paint AND caulking, oh my). Honestly, he has so many I don’t even think he notices. He does need a whole wardrobe overhaul; most of his clothes don’t fit him well anymore or have a lot of paint on them. Classic Andrew. We just haven’t had the time to figure out what size he is now.
