Local, sustainable home goods?

Sign me up! Ten & Co. have a variety of local (or Canadian-made), sustainable wares for around the home. Ten & Co are located in Oakville, and I didn’t realize how close they were to home.

They’re actually conveniently located right beside Akasha’s Den so I can grab physical and spiritual cleaning supplies all at the same time. My personal favourites are the items for the kitchen.

Kitchen Essentials

The first thing on my shopping list is the sponge cloths. Ten & Co creates the designs for them and they replace single-use paper towels. These are amazing. Super absorbent, adorable designs, and I love that you can just throw them in the wash to freshen them up. I find them reasonably priced as well, at $6 each for how long they last and how multipurpose they are? Great!

I currently transitioning over the using only sponge cloths, but this will be a slow process since the kitchen towels I have are still in working condition. I’m just replacing them as I go! The really stained or ripped ones can finally go.

They come in two different sizes. The larger size works a treat for bigger spills (like when the humidifier gets knocked over…). It will definitely get used around my household. I only bought one to try out, but I’ll pick up more when I head back. These are just under 16″x12″ so they work great as a dish mat as well. These are $14 each.

Next on my list was the wood pot scrubber. I love how these work. I generally buy them from the grocery store but these have no plastic in them at all.

The best thing about all these items? They’re biodegradable and can be composted. Eventually – when they’re absolutely at the end of their life.

Cleaning

I’m constantly playing around with the laundry detergents that I use, and one thing I did enjoy using was laundry strips. I bought the Good Juju strips to try out and so far I’m really loving them. They dissolve quickly and are truly unscented. They’re on par with other companies that sell laundry strips at $15 for 36 loads.

Lifestyle & Self Care

I didn’t buy anything but they have a great selection of cookbooks and home and beauty. All locally sourced items. She carries seeds, plants, and pots. Skincare lines like BKIND nail polish (Montreal-based), and Unwrapped Life shampoo bars (Calgary-based).

I love the little doorstop/boot brush that looks like a little hedgehog. It’s adorable and I want one. But my kids would steal it and it wouldn’t ever get used.

I need to head back there to grab some more of the Good Juju laundry strips as I’ve finished them and enjoyed using them. They worked great – just as well as the liquid stuff, I’m currently finishing up in the meantime.

I love supporting shopping local and shopping Canadian. Shopping local helps support your community as well as keep your money out of billionaires’ pockets.

Is sustainable living on your list of things to do?

A little step to cutting out waste is always nice, and Ten & Co is a great place to start your journey. What items are you loving?
