Review :: Movie I Watched

Alright, this post is going to be heavy. I’ve watched a lot of movies, and have been neglecting my reviews of them. I should also be doing a bit of a week recap, but that might have to be changed up as well! Enjoy!

Epic

I watched this movie quite awhile ago, and now it’s finally on Netflix, so feel free to grab it there too! This was an extremely cute movie. I enjoyed it immensely, and while I was a little upset with the ending, it made sense for the movie. Just thinking about it makes me want to watch it again. I enjoyed the actual premise of the movie  – her father is a crazy scientist obsessed with this fairy world that he can’t see but knows exists. The problem is that no one else believes him, until his daughter actually ends up in that world. Of course, it’s an interesting twist of the bad guy is trying to destroy the forest, and the good guys are the guardians of it. Enabling the help of humans good triumphs over evil.

Dredd
Oddly enough, I really enjoyed this movie. A great amount of action, and Lena Headey is amazing as a villian, as she has proven on Game of Thrones. As this is based on a comic, and there have been others before this, it’s constantly changing. This didn’t really have much of a plot line – Judge Dredd gets locked into a building holding the leader of the biggest drug manufacturer in the city. Expect a lot of cool gun scenes, some trippy mind-reading scenes and violence. Lots and lots of violence. A great pick for some guy’s night in or some good background noise.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
I find that as Ben Stiller grows older, his roles have taken on a more serious comedic edge – a little bit like Steve Carrell’s dark side humour. Of course, he’s had some duds [Along Came Polly], but he has some one line gold – “No body makes me bleed my own blood” Dodgeball. This movie I really, really enjoyed. Walter Mitty is a man who has an avid imagination, but doesn’t actually do anything grand in his life. He is a working stiff, and not very courageous. This is him actually doing something great in his life – living. I found that this was a story that was very easy to relate to, and probably most of us live our lives in this manor. The scenery is of course stunning, and the smart, witty dialogue is on point. I definitely recommend this movie to anyone!

American Hustle

I know that this was Oscar loved blah, blah, blah, but am I the only one who was disappointed by this movie? It seemed like it was never ending, I’m not sure what the whole deal was with the hype about Jennifer Lawrence since she was such a minor character, I don’t even feel like she was a supporting actor in this movie. But clearly, this is just me. Plus, her character was really annoying. It was a slightly interesting twist at the end, but I felt like it just took so long to get there that I wasn’t even interested anymore. I don’t think that this is a movie that I will want to watch again.

The Monument’s Men
Can George Clooney do no wrong? I’m not the biggest fan of him as a person, but as an actor/director he is pretty much golden. This movie was definitely impressive. The story line was good, the dialogue was witty and there was enough action to tug at the heartstrings. Premise of the story, it’s a team of old professors that go into WWII to protect the art from being destroyed and stolen by Hitler. Based on a true story, it’s pretty intense to think what our world would be like without the Mona Lisa, or the amazing art that fills our museums today. Strong supporting actors, and while it’s definitely more dialogue than action, I don’t think it’s one to miss, especially for the history buffs.

The Art of the Steal
This one, I didn’t really have any kind of hopes or thoughts. I actually can’t remember seeing a trailer for this one, or really reading anything about it. It was rather unmemorable on the radar, but it had me laughing out loud, and really enjoyed it. This movie was so much better of a hustle and twist than American Hustle. A group of art thieves are attempting to pull of the greatest heist, all while Interpol is breathing down their necks and watching their every move. Along the lines of the Ocean’s movies, except that they steal art instead of money. Everything was extremely well done, and there was no crazy amounts of bad CGI. Definitely recommend this one as well!

Alright, I still have a whole bunch of movies to review, but I think that 6 to start off with is enough of an overload already. Have you watched any of these movies? Are you going to? Let me know what you think of my reviews!
