Life :: Inspiration in Four Movies

In need of some inspiration?

MovieInspiration-Feat

Sometimes, when I’m feeling uninspired by my life, or lacking motivation, I’ll pop on a movie (that I’ve watched a million times) just because they make me feel good and inspire me to reach those career, fashion, or life goals. Of course, it’s always great when it’s a strong female lead, but sometimes it’s just a sappy rom-com that puts you in a happy place. If you saw the state of my Recently Watched on Netflix… you’d know.

My Five Go-To Movies for Inspiration:

4. Austenland

Hear me out. I came across this movie on Netflix when I was looking for something sappy. And I instantly fell in love. I can totally understand the attraction of being in love with a fictional character. The plus side: They aren’t real, so they are completely perfect and do all of the right things. The down side: They aren’t real, and make me set unrealistic expectations in life.

I think the reason I find this movie so inspiring is that she decides to do something, follows it through, and while in the beginning she’s a bit of a push-over, she truly finds herself and kicks her obsession in the butt. Plus she finds an adorable relationship. Win-win right? Plus, just the scenery makes me so happy.

3. The Other Woman

Also, not your average go-to. I love this movie because:

a) Cameron Diaz is amazing and I love her so much
b) She’s a #Girlboss
c) Her style is flawless
d) There’s a Great Dane !!
e) Nicki Minaj is on point (“Selfish people live longer. I’m just saying.”)

A rather unconventional show of girl friendships, but I actually love the way that they bond, and the chemistry seems all legit. She’s a go-getter, and super inspiring in terms of career.

2. From Up on Poppy Hill

Now, this one is an anime, but honestly – Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki has some killer female leads. In this one, (which is set in 1964), is the story of a young high school student who’s mother is overseas studying, her father has passed away, and she’s taking care of her 2 younger siblings, running a boarding house with her grandmother, and going to school. I want to know how she does it. She gets up early, makes breakfasts, lunches and dinners, starts laundry, gets her homework done, and manages to help the school’s clubs clean their clubhouse. And she manages to fall in love.

I couldn’t imagine doing that at 16, that’s for sure. Her dedication to keeping the house running smoothly, and her grades is commendable. Plus, she just makes me want to keep my house cleaner. And make amazing lunches. And also live in Japan (but that’s another issue altogether).

1.  The Devil Wears Prada

I think that this is the ultimate one. Not only does Anne Hathaway rock the transformation in movies (Princess Diaries, anyone?), she has an awesome job. Yes, high maintenance but it’s fashion and personal assistant. Yes, I wouldn’t mind that job. But she rocks that job, until she realizes that this wasn’t the job/lifestyle/person she wanted to be. I could just watch the opening scene for work fashion inspiration. On repeat, please. I think that another Anne Hathaway movie that will be added to this list will be her new one, The Intern, with Robert De Niro!

And then on the other hand you have the ULTIMATE #GIRLBOSS, Meryl Streep just rocking that ice queen high power exec woman. If that’s not inspiring, I don’t know what is. As well as Emily Blunt, who is so dedicated to her job that she was almost killing herself to lose weight (insane), but also really good at her job!
