Books :: Graphic Novels (Manga)

This isn’t new. I love manga. I’m a huge manga nerd.

And I’m damn proud of it. I used to not be. I mentioned in a post last summer that I got into manga in high school, and 10 years later I’m still going strong. If anything, the obsession is stronger.

And probably the worst thing to happen to me is downloading a MangaZone app. I read a lot of scans because there are so many titles and authors that just don’t get published in Canada. With this app, I can now read manga everywhere, and it’s so good yet so bad.

I’ve been binging lately, and it’s been taking up majority of my time (#NoRegrets), much to Andrew’s chagrin.

Here’s what’s on my top read list:

1 // Crimson Hero – This one I’ve read before but didn’t remember it all. This one makes me want to play volleyball all the time. I think it’s a little sad how it ends but still a great read. Plus – it’s a sweet romance and a bit of a tearjerker! *completed

2 // Magic Knight Rayearth – Gotta love CLAMP and their art style. Everyone is so pretty, and it’s pretty classic. Tokyo Tower magic transporting them to a new (magical) world! *completed

3 // Kaze Hikaru – Historical fiction! Definitely an interesting read, especially if you’re interested in Japan’s history. It takes place in the 1800’s during the Bakufu era. It’s a romantic love story, that has everything – fighting, gender-bending, romance, and history! And a kick-ass heroine. *on going still

4 // So Bad! – By the author/mangaka of Hot Gimmick, this one I can’t find here in Canada yet. I’m still waiting for it to be brought over. I really enjoy Miki Aihara’s works, but unlike the ending of Hot Gimmick, the heroine totally picks the right guy at the end. Plus, her characters are pretty good looking too. This is another one where she’s a straight-A student who has to become a housekeeper for the family that she hates due to her mom’s sudden injury. But as she gets to know the family, she realizes that they have much more in common than she thought! *completed

5 // Tsubaki-chou Lonely Planet – I don’t think this one’s been brought over either, but it’s such a sweet love story. Plus it’s a fairly realistic story line. AND she’s pretty inspiring. Due to her father’s debt, she’s kicked out of her house, and has to figure out a way to survive. So she ends up being the housekeeper for a writer, all while still going to high school! *on going

There’s of course, a whole lot more, but I think it might be a little overwhelming of a post! Do you also enjoy manga? Let me know!
