August ‘Tell Me Lies’ Fairyloot Unboxing

August’s Fairyloot box! Finally, right?

August’s ‘Tell Me Lies’ themed book is Violet Made of Thorns by Gina Chen.

Tell Me Lies

A darkly enchanting fantasy debut about a morally gray witch, a cursed prince, and a prophecy that ignites their fate-twisted destinies—perfect for fans of The Cruel Prince and Serpent & Dove.

Violet is a prophet and a liar, influencing the royal court with her cleverly phrased—and not always true—divinations. Honesty is for suckers, like the oh-so-not charming Prince Cyrus, who plans to strip Violet of her official role once he’s crowned at the end of the summer—unless Violet does something about it.

But when the king asks her to falsely prophesy Cyrus’s love story for an upcoming ball, Violet awakens a dreaded curse, one that will end in either damnation or salvation for the kingdom—all depending on the prince’s choice of future bride. Violet faces her own choice: Seize an opportunity to gain control of her own destiny, no matter the cost, or give in to the ill-fated attraction that’s growing between her and Cyrus.

Violet’s wits may protect her in the cutthroat court, but they can’t change her fate. And as the boundary between hatred and love grows ever thinner with the prince, Violet must untangle a wicked web of deceit in order to save herself and the kingdom—or doom them all.

Now for the ‘Tell Me Lies’ themed items

So this one I didn’t get 2 of the items (and I’m waiting for them to still arrive). Fairyloot’s customer service is one of the best and I’ll be posting about that later in a different box too! So this month’s theme of Tell Me Lies featured items inspired by books are the items that I didn’t get.

The items I did get are awesome. I’m really liking and enjoying the Celestial jewelry travel box. I was going to bring it to Mexico and then realized I don’t bring jewelry on vacation. So it now sits in my bathroom to hold all of my jewelry. It’s a great size for me. I don’t have a lot of stuff but it’s jewelry I want to keep safe and organized.

The next item is the bookshelf tote bag. It features all the books that have been a part of past boxes or special editions. I love a good tote and these are always such good quality and deep! Lots of room for carrying books from the library… *cough*.

This month’s tarot cards are inspired by Only A Monster and feature Joan as Justice and Aaron as The Wheel of Fortune.

I also got the collectible Mythology bookmarks featuring Anansi and Apate.

Overall thoughts on the book

I actually read this one! And I do remember enjoying reading it, but thinking back I can barely remember anything about it. Clearly not a book that sticks with you for a while. I do remember thinking that it’s not really enemies to lovers and that the main characters were more annoying than truly enjoyable banter. It’s probably not memorable because there’s nothing particularly outstanding with the world. Nothing really gets answered, and a lot of hints are dropped but it’s nothing to be like WOW I need to read the sequel to find out how it finishes. Overall just a bit messy. I was able to finish it so it was readable and not unbearable but nothing fancy.

What do you think of this book and box?

Let me know on social media! I’m always down for some book talk.
