It’s Been A Week

A hell of a week, if I’m honest.

If it could go wrong, or not the way I expected, that’s the way it went. I thought we were out of Mercury Retrograde. Because FML it feels like life has been worse since we’ve come out of Retrograde.

It was like a series of unfortunate events. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.

Last Monday was Eli’s first day of summer since his preschool ended on the 9th. Which would have been fine, except we were all just on my last nerve. I was in the final throes of my PMS week, which means I have ZERO patience for anything. I won’t lie, I lost my ever-loving shit on him that day. I’m pretty sure I blacked out because I don’t even remember what it was that set me off, but boy-oh-boy, did it set me off.

I came over all Velma Kelly and was basically ready to murder everyone. Then to top off the perfect hell of a day – at 10 pm that night after what should have been a calming dog walk, Bailey got sprayed by a skunk. In our driveway. By the Grace of GOD, I managed to not get sprayed but it was definitely stuck in my nose, so I couldn’t tell if I had even been sprayed. I was ready to go to bed and never wake up after that one.

But Tuesday was off to a better start.

I talked to Eli and we set out some ground rules because I will not be able to function if the whole summer goes how Monday went. And he clearly knew that he had pushed me past my limit because he was VERY GOOD the rest of the week. I had work meetings so didn’t go into the shop (which is good because stinky dog) because Andrew has me taking on more of a project management role which is fun. We’ll see how it goes.

I attempted to bathe Bailey Tuesday but of course that didn’t go over well at all. I think I was more bathed than she was. But to top off this gem of a day, our tankless hot water heater finally gave up the ghost but that meant no hot water. At this point I’m neeeeeeding a shower but what’s another couple of days, right?

Wednesday dawns, and it’s a good day.

I did some work, did some housework, and hung out with Eli. He didn’t constantly hound me for snacks. We picked up Kaiden and had some fun at the park. Kaiden had a karate test for his yellow belt so we went to that and Andrew was able to meet us there. We had a good night, but I’m pretty sure this was the night that Bailey was fed up with living outside and busted through our screen door, so.. whomp whomp there.

Thursday! Riding!

Which was awesome. I have no complaints about that. I didn’t injure myself, I got to relax and have a much-needed breath of fresh air and the meditation that comes from being on a horse. PLUS the HVAC guys came to install the water heater! So we had hot water when I got home. WOOHOOO. Things are starting to look up! Dare one hope?

Friday was great too.

I managed to get some more work done although it had me stressing out a bit. Add in some MAD cleaning because we were hosting a party Saturday night, on top of packing for the boys to go away for the weekend. I wanted to do some dog training as well but that definitely didn’t happen. This weekend flew by and it was a bit of a blur. Although we left the boys’ bedroom window open and Eli just about died from his allergies. He woke up around 1 am coughing up a lung and was just so congested!! When I saw that amount of pollen on the car in the morning I completely understood. Note to self: No more windows open in the boys’ room.

Then the weekend hits!

It was spent prepping for the party and doing last-minute cleaning. Andrew drove the kids into the city to his parents. They were going out with my brother and sister-in-law to see Medieval Times (which was their birthday gift) and sleep over at Baba and Papa’s. We had a rocking time hosting one of our friend’s 60th birthday. He was the original owner of our house and celebrated his 20th and 40th birthdays there. So we decided to surprise him and his friends with a party at our house. Everyone was pretty excited and happy to be back and never thought they’d party at our house again! Man, can those 60-year-olds party! They didn’t roll out until 12.30 am and it was a wild time. They were great fun.

Sunday I had a little bit of a lie-in since we didn’t have the kids AND my house is fantastically clean. We cleaned up the outside a bit and then I went and had brunch with Briana since she’s moving out of province now! Feels like all my friends are long-distance now!

AND THEN ED SHEERAN!!!!!!!!

hell week

Can I have more exclamation points? I completely forgot that a) it was at the Rogers Centre and b) we had floor tickets.

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE. I’ve never been to the Rogers Centre so this was my first time experiencing anything like this!! Being able to get close to the stage (even though we didn’t push through to get super close) was such an amazing thing. Ed Sheeran is a fantastic performer. I loved that he told little details about the songs he was singing, and I didn’t know that he had written ‘Love Yourself’ that Justin Bieber sings. He went on at just after 8 and played a solid 2 and a bit hours. It was amazing watching him create the songs on his loop board and really be just a one-man show.

10/10 would recommend. I kind of wish that Shawn Mendes came back out for Sunday, as well as Saturday although if JUSTIN HAD COME OUT TO SING WITH HIM I probably would have died.

It was a great end to a shitty week and I’m so glad that the weekend was everything I wanted it to be. It’s put me in such a great mood and I’m ready to tackle this week (and gear up for the start of summer/end of the school year).

I can’t believe that there’s just over a week left of school for Kaiden and then it’s summer vacation! And then in the fall I have TWO boys in school and will basically be working full time?! Who am I? I am not prepared for this.

I’m hoping to get more time to sit down and write again but I feel like I have all these goals and not enough time. But such is life right? I’ve been making little changes to my routines and habits and here’s to getting them to turn into bigger changes.

I guess we’ll find out how this summer goes with the 2 boys and the dog at home… while trying to work, write, read, and clean. I don’t have any more ramble posts yet, but check out my last book post here before I write my June Read post!

Wish me luck.
