Books Read in February

Even with February being shorter, I still got some reading in!

I’m pretty impressed with how well I’m keeping up with this so far. Granted, I was up north for a weekend with very limited service or internet so that definitely helps! One of the books on this list is technically a DNF (Did Not Finish) but still deserves a mention because I got a decent way through the book. I just haven’t found it in me to get back into it. I did also start a book on the Fairyloot To-Be-Read list, but I haven’t finished it so it doesn’t make it onto the February list.

Here are the reviews for February’s read books!

Under Locke – Mariana Zapata

Another Mariana Zapata novel. This one, I won’t lie, was much harder to read and finish than her other works. Maybe I’m not really into the Bad Boy Biker Gang trope, but I found Iris to be very irritating and too innocent. It was a grumpy/sunshine which I generally LOVE but I’m not sure what made this one so difficult. She was annoying, he was overly mean. It was annoying when she’d be like “I’m so used to fending for myself” and then do something completely stupid to make Dex yell at her for being an idiot. And then she’d get mad even though she knew she was wrong and cold-shoulder him. I almost DNF’d this one… But I made myself finish it. Not a hit in my eyes.

The Love Hypothesis – Ali Hazelwood

This one has been exploding online for a while now and I finally dragged ass and read it. Did I love it? Yes. Did I get why it went viral? yes. Were there things that annoyed me? Yes.

Overall, I enjoyed it. Made me laugh, made me cry and I didn’t want to stop reading it. So that’s a win in my books. Does it read like Reylo fanfiction? Hells ya. I don’t know, this might be an unpopular opinion but I don’t think that all fanfictions can and should attempt to become their own thing. Would this have been a better novel if it still was Reylo? Definitely. You’ve taken defined characters and so not having any background information works because most people know it already.

The main male lead, Adam, has zero background and personality other than being moody and hot, and mean. As Kylo Ren? Makes sense. As Adam, you’re left wondering if that’s all that’s holding this guy together. Oh, and he’s genius smart. I don’t even remember the main female lead’s name, but she’s also naive and one-track-minded when it comes to science and has never been interested in the opposite sex until Adam. Fine, but it made it seem like there was something wrong with her.

Definitely had some problematic areas, and the plotline could have been way less contrived (I love a good fake-dating trope) so overall it was good. It’s definitely not going to be winning any awards I guess. And I’m curious about her other books so I’ve got a couple on the docket for next month.

Every Sweet Regret – Lexi Ryan

I only found out about Lexi Ryan because of Fairyloot when she wrote ‘These Hollow Vows’, which I love and still need to finish the sequel. To find out that she writes adult romance? Sign me up!

I definitely am not reading them in any kind of order but this one was sweet. A case of miscommunication and mistaken identity, I enjoyed Stella as a character. I liked her no-nonsense way of life even if it led her to some cringy moments. Kace… I liked him but he was a bit of an idiot. Well, I guess in their way they both were. Idiots for each other. But his ex, Amy, whoo what a nightmare. I don’t understand why he was so hung up on her when she clearly is not a nice person.

An Enchantment Of Ravens – Margaret Rogerson

I’m pretty sure this was a re-read for me because I vaguely remember things about this. But then again, it seemed all new to me so who knows?

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. I enjoyed the book for the Fae and human interaction. I enjoyed the idea that the Fae couldn’t use Craft (create things) so relied on humans to supply them with items and trinkets.

Untying the Knot – Meghan Quinn

This one, I did not finish. I wanted to like this one. But I just couldn’t get into it. It flipped time periods to give context to their relationship and it was just annoying. It probably was fairly realistic in terms of the divorce but it’s annoying that she was so wishy-washy over her decision.

I may finish it but I think that I’m just not the biggest fan of Meghan Quinn.

Hard to believe that it’s already March!

The Love Hypothesis was definitely the highlight for the books this month but I’m looking forward to March’s books. I’m going to finish Daughter of the Moon Goddess and maybe jump into Defy the Night/Defend the Dawn.

Any thoughts or suggestions for what I should read this month?

Let me know! Happy Reading!
