Toronto :: Le Petit Prince

A couple weekends’ ago, Andrew and I headed downtown for the National Ballet of Canada’s premier production of Le Petit Prince.

Le Petit Prince is the brainchild of Principal Dancer, Guillaume Cote, and based off of the French novella of the same name, the ballet was absolutely stunning.

I still haven’t read the book, but I knew the gist of it (more or less) to understand what was going on. The set design was really interesting, using black screen to have art and writing visible. That was especially nice when you moved through the characters of the ballet. You’re taken through the characteristics that adults deal with (vanity, greed, power, etc) and each was amazing in its own way.

My personal favourites were the Businessman and the Wild Birds. The costumes were so amazing, and it was… there’s almost no words for how I felt. For how the ballet makes me feel. So good!

The choreography was amazing, and the dancing was superb. And the music! So good. I love the music. Andrew wasn’t a huge fan of it, he preferred other ones we’ve been to before. But he still enjoyed himself. I liked the flow of it, and I honestly can’t wait to see what else Cote will bring to the table in the future. He is extremely talented!

Definitely a lovely date night out for Andrew and I – we even went to a party afterwards. I won’t talk about how we cut the timing close to getting there, causing me to panic (internally).

On stage right now is Giselle, and then it’ll be time for the 2016/2017 season! Will you be seeing anything coming up?
