Music :: Going to Hell Tour

Going to Hell Tour

This week started with a bit of a bang. Rushed around crazily, but not as crazy as I expected to head downtown to see The Pretty Reckless. The show started at 7, but we didn’t arrive til just after 7.30 when the first opening act was just finishing up. The two opening bands were ones that I have never heard of before and really enjoyed their music.

A little background about The Pretty Reckless before we begin. For those that might not know, Pretty Reckless is fronted by Taylor Momsen, the actress who plays Little J in the Gossip Girl series. She is seriously pretty, and seriously talented. I didn’t think that I would like her music very much, as it is a little hardcore [for me], but it’s so catchy and the music definitely grows on you [albeit a little darker than your average pop song]. She has a new album Going to Hell coming out next year, and when she toured last year I missed it, and was determined not to have that happen again whenever she is back in town.

Oddly, her show was on a Monday night, which was a great way to start off a week, but not really because it meant that I spent the entire week trying to get over my tiredness of screaming and jumping and standing. This just goes to show how old my body is becoming. It’s even sadder because I was home and in bed by 12 and was still destroyed. But I digress.

I missed the first opening band, we caught only one song, but made it for the next opening band, Heaven’s Basement. I’m so glad that we did get to see them because they are amazing. They are a UK punk band and they are very good-looking boys. And very talented. I went out and bought their CD [listening to it as I type up this post], they’re that worth it. I had a total fan-girl moment when the cute drummer took off his shirt, and thought it was awesome when the lead singer crowd surfed, and walked around the on the crowd. Brave, brave man. They definitely got the crowd going and had great energy right before Pretty Reckless. I would have been happy just seeing them.

But of course we were there for Pretty Reckless, and when they came on they definitely delivered. Taylor Momsen is just as gorgeous in real life as she is in magazines and on tv, and I love her. The only downfall of this show was it was a lot of standing, and I don’t really know much of her newer stuff. But that didn’t really detract from the show. She did play an encore, but we didn’t stay for that since we’re old and couldn’t handle standing in the crowd. On the plus side, not staying for the encore meant that we got to meet some of the band members from Heaven’s Basement. Definitely a highlight of the night.
