Media :: Faith K-Drama

Finally finished the Korean drama, Faith, and it’s absolutely fantastic.

Faith
I wasn’t actually going to post about this on here, but I’m so addicted that I can’t help myself. Faith is one of those that kept me hooked, and staying up way to late to watch just one more episode. I wanted it to end so I could know how it finished, but I don’t want it to end because that means it’s over!

Lee Min Ho stars in this thrilling fantasy epic, as an elite warrior in 1300s Korea who travels to the 21st century to find a doctor capable of healing the Queen. In a comic twist, his search for a doctor with godlike abilities leads him to a popular plastic surgeon. When she refuses to believe his outlandish story, he kidnaps her, dragging her back into the past to save the Queen. Will this stoic warrior give up his code of honor and choose love over war, and will this career woman ever consider a life less modern? Only time will tell—literally. – DramaFever

First – I love and hate that k-dramas are so long. Yes, because that just means there’s more to love, but hate because they take so long to get through, and also make me stay up way too late on a work night.

Second – I feel like Faith doesn’t get enough mention online!! It’s truly fantastic and the plot and characters are so good! I can’t get enough of Lee Min Ho in this role. He will forever be Choi Young to me. Him in a macho-warrior role – so yum.

This contains **spoilers** which I rarely do, but I can’t contain it. Don’t keep reading if you want to watch it still!

I just finished the series and I’m freaking out. I feel really bad for Gi Cheol – even though he’s such a bad guy! He just really wants to go to the future, and honestly, can you blame him? I feel like if she had just sat down and talked to him after telling him that she didn’t come from heaven, instead of running away every time he wouldn’t have tried to steal the throne and kill the king. There were many times where he seemed so lucid, and then others where he seemed like he had lost his mind. He was very well acted, and such a manipulator!

Can I just hardcore fangirl for a moment?!?

Choi Young and Eui Seon for, like, ever – amirite? Yes. It took them 17 long ass episodes to get to their first kiss (Halleloo) and it was so worth it. I absolutely LOVE the fact that the Wu Dal Chi want them to get together even more. It’s almost like everyone is conspiring to hook these two up (I mean the KING put them in the same room together!!) and they’re still resisting!! I can understand why they’re resisting, but damn. I keep thinking that I would be totes inapprops if I ever got sent back into history. (I also am terrible at history… and probably would be killed instantly if that ever truly happened. Plus, Canada (as a whole) hasn’t been around that long.. So I’d be sent back like… 300 years. Lame!) There are so many relationships that I ship in this series. The King and the Queen! Omg just kiss already too!! The Royals are so formal, and while I get that it’s because of the time period, I’m just like ARGH! Too cute. If I had gotten sent back, again, would be totes inapprops giving all kinds of advice.

Backstories: You get to learn about Choi Young’s history (with his past love), but you really don’t know a lot about Eui Seon. The politics in the show is a little complicated (as it’s all new information) but I find it extremely interesting. Probably why I enjoy historical fiction. I definitely had to do some Googling afterwards to know how much was embellished.

I did NOT see the whole twist with her being in the past earlier?!

That part still confuses me a little bit, so maybe it’ll become clearer in the last couple episodes. I don’t understand how it can be 100 years before, but then she still has the memories of Choi Young and stuff. It’s a little confusing, or maybe I just missed something?? The fact that she’s leaving herself notes is ridonck. It’s like a never-ending loop, and she keeps going back until she perfects what’s going to happen? Except that she can’t remember that she’s been there before.. It’s a little weird. Update: OMG I’m actually amazed that they were able to explain how this happened in just ONE episode – kudos for sure. The fact that she came back in time again to save him BUT HE WASN’T THERE. Cue hardcore crying and panic that they would end the series with them not together.

Shows like this make me realize that I’m absolutely useless, and have no survival skills. Awesome. I’m super addicted to it again. Part of me wishes that I could have a Dramaworld moment and just drop right in. Also – Choi Young needs his clothes off more. Not enough SKIN.

In terms of production – it’s well done. The action scenes are choreographed well, although the blood is not very realistic. But it definitely has that old Asian movie vibe – gravity defying jumps, super strength and hearing, and lots of flowy clothing spins. I can’t say for sure if the costuming is authentic, but it’s not the best in close up scenes – looks a little fake. But the garments that the royals wear? Opulent for sure! So pretty.

Faith is definitely one of my favourites, and I’m totally addicted to period dramas. Now I just need one about a Canadian girl.. who doesn’t immediately die even though she has no discernible skills… HMMM fan fic idea!? Teehee. But seriously, you need to go watch this NOW. And I’m off to watch Scarlet Heart and countdown until Scarlet Heart: Ryeo comes out (this Sunday!!).

Happy TV drama watching!
