Back in October, I headed to the tip of Toronto for a concert. Tuesday night you say? On a school night? Yup. I drove to Sound Academy for Tove Lo, and now that I’ve heard her live I would most definitely go anywhere in Toronto if she comes back.
I posted about this back in August, and had just purchased tickets. The months seemed to fly by and poof – it was suddenly time for it. I had purchased 2 tickets (planned on going with Andrew) but he was unable to make it due to work, so I went by myself (which made me feel old…)
I got there at 7.45ish, and Erik Hassle went on at 8.00. He was interesting. I had never heard his stuff before, and it was interesting enough that I looked up his stuff online for a further listen. But really, I was there for Tove Lo.
When she hit the stage at 9, the crowd was pumped. I had never really paid attention to her band before (2 drummers and a keyboardist), and they were so good. She came on with a bang, and jumped right into her set. She had a good balance of songs to talking to the crowd, and letting us know about the songs, the last time she was in Toronto, going to Kensington Market this time around, she’s pretty awesome.
She played majority of the songs off of her Queen of the Clouds album, her Truth EP, as well as the song she did for the Hunger Games. Her voice is amazing. She sounds better live than on her albums, and she has great stage presence. Plus, during Talking Body she flashed the crowd! And the crowd went wild. It was pretty awesome. As if I couldn’t like that song even more, her singing it live definitely made it better.
I’m kind of sad that I wasn’t able to share this with anyone, but it was such a great concert. I got home about 11.30 (it took me a half hour to get out of the parking lot…) but Andrew was already asleep when I got home. That took a little bit of the wind out of my sails, but I woke up and was still so excited. I feel like I’ll be raving about this one for a while.
Were you there? Let me know below!
