Toronto :: Spark Sessions SEO Workshop

SEO confusing you? I feel the exact same way. But not to worry, SparkSessions came to the rescue with a SEO workshop with key speaker, Nicki Lamont!

Two Saturdays ago, in the Entertainment district of Toronto, SparkSessions held another incredible workshop on what Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is all about, and how to use SEO in our blogs.

Nicki Lamont was a wonderful speaker, and actually made SEO sound somewhat interesting – aka I didn’t want to nod off at all! Although sitting in the front row probably helped with that too. I’ve done… probably about 3 or 4 SEO courses now and she was definitely the best – take that college!

Some important tips that I learned on SEO:

  • It’s all about research – knowing the keywords relevant to your topic, and what you write about
  • Creating a linking structure within your blog – link to your own content twice
  • The difference between short-term and long-term keywords: might only be a slight change but a HUGE difference!
  • Branding and Social Media – consistency is key!
  • Keywords, keywords, everywhere!
  • Keywords in your title, description, meta, images, headlines!
  • Have I mentioned keywords enough? Clearly they are important

I took plenty of notes, and can’t wait to start implementing all that I’ve learned! I’m actually really excited to start getting a jump on this and just seeing what happens in the next couple months of actively working on my SEO.

On the fun side of the workshop, it was great to see the lovely bloggers: Zubie, Annette, Ashley, and Shilpi; as well as meeting some new ones! It’s always great to meet new people, and I can’t wait until the next workshop in August!
