Toronto :: Cocktail Crawl at The Spoke Club

Have you heard of a thing called social clubs?

While some are super elitist and cost way more money than I am currently willing to invest in [although I won’t rule it out completely for the future], there are some that have a more “pay as you go” style of fees, as in ticket purchase to events you are interested in.

I attended the Cocktail Crawl’s 2nd Annual fashion show, which was being held at the Spoke Club. An interesting idea for a club, where fashion meets networking. While I met a couple lovely ladies, I was sadly put off by the extremely long delay and the seemingly poor planning.

Despite the invite ticket saying to be there at 7 p.m. sharp, the actual event didn’t start until 8.45 p.m.! My friend and I showed up promptly at seven, to find that they didn’t have the drink tickets ready to give out, or that they didn’t have a name tag for myself! Handwritten, for the win. In consolation, not every one had one either, but as I pre-purchased my ticket, I feel like it should have been typed. For the ones purchased at the door, fine, write my name, but anyone who bought a ticket should have a neat name tag.

A couple of false starts; there was some belly dancing that seemed extremely long, and then another fairly long interlude before the first show started. After the excitement of that one, there was another interlude! I couldn’t believe it. I don’t really remember how long we waited that time, but I think at that point any extra waiting felt like ages. The clothes were stunning though, and I definitely saw a few that I wouldn’t have minded snapping up! Perhaps next year for the gala?

I spent the evening chatting with one of the models mom’s, Sarah of Made Inland (more about her in another post to come!) and after the show, we bumped into two ladies from the Style Iniative who had decided to leave after the first show in order to get some food. We had a lovely chat, and left to search for another place serving food.

While there was a lengthy delay in the planning, I do think that I would like to try another one of the meetups. It’s definitely a great idea, and I do love meeting people! Would you go to a networking meet up?
