You’d think after almost writing in journals for almost 3 decades, I’d be better at it.
But like everything in my life, I ebb and flow. Journal writing is definitely one of the more consistent things in my life. Usually though, when major life changes happen, I tend to drop the ball.
The last time it’s taken me this long to finish a journal was probably when I was in college for the first time and much to distracted by my social life to sit and make the time to write what was happening in the world.
I do find with blogging sometimes it’s a little redundant and I don’t want to write about it again in a journal. The balance of writing a lifestyle blog? Over the years though I’ve definitely pared down on how “personal” my lifestyle blog is, and that means that I can take all the emotional business back to the written page.
Doesn’t always mean that I have.
One of the hardest things for me is determining how I want to set up my journals.
As a new mom, and soon to be mom of 2, I’m definitely noticing that I’m trying to find ways to conserve and better use my time. The limited time that I have between babies, naps, housework, blogging, working, and actually getting any sleep for myself. I find that I have to prioritize the hobbies that I want to keep.
I’ve always enjoyed scrapbooking and photo-collection, but it might be time to just stick to pre-set photo albums instead of trying to make my own.
Journals that double up as planners and scrapbooks. At times there seems to be so many options that I’m almost overwhelmed and then do nothing.
In the past, my journals are only writing. I write the day and play a lot of catch-up on events that I feel are important, or conversations that need to be recorded. Now, I’m trying to incorporate more photos and make them more of an aesthetic junk journal/scrapbook so that I can capture important moments faster without having to scrapbook them and wait for bigger prints.
I’m even using my Passion Planner to fill in longer paragraphs about what happened that day or week if it was especially important.
I just haven’t found anything that really feels “right”, although I think I’m getting closer.
I’ve been definitely enjoying the non-structured dated approach to journaling, even though it’s still “dated”. I like throwing in a little more creative vibes, and using the HP Sprocket again.
Fingers crossed I can keep this up a little better going forward than I have been!
