I am not a morning person. I don’t do well in the mornings, and the thought of getting up any sooner than I have to is almost disgusting to me.
But, I love the idea of being a morning person. In my mind, when I think about my ideal future, I’m up in the morning. Early, having tea, walking dogs, communing with nature before I have to deal with the crush of reality and kids. Even now, when I do have to be up early in the morning, I love it. I love how productive I feel, and how much more time in the day I have to get shit done in. Or, get shit done AND still be able to spend hours reading/surfing the webs/watching TV.
So, I’m trying to make the effort to become a Morning Person.
Amy sent me a link to a free online course – How to Become a Morning Person. It’s not demanding, and it’s broken down into little bite sized pieces, which is nice. The lessons are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you “miss” a day, it’s alright. You’re not racing to try and catch up so you don’t fall behind.
Put together by Militza Maury of Little Green Dot, she compiled research from experts and other Morning People to find out how they did/do it. There’s a Facebook community to support and keep you on track, and I’m also buddying up with Amy.
We’re currently on Lesson 5, and it’s about changing your Snooze button reactions. I need to start using music again to wake me up, so I can do this properly. We’ve tackled the psychology of why, dismantled roadblocks, created a sleep journal, and started better night time habits.
I’m actually enjoying this one, and while I’ve slightly regressed this week with my sleep habits, I’m still working hard to change my mindset in regards to waking up early. Like most things, it’s all about mind over matter. I’ve been able to change my mindset about a bunch of things recently, so this is just another step to achieving my life goals!
Are you a morning person? Or more of a night owl? Let me know!
