Choosing Signature Scents | Beauty

Something that intrigues me is having a signature scent.

I’m super particular about scents because anything too floral just sets my allergies off and I’m running about sneezing and blowing my nose.

I definitely prefer sweet or citrusy scents. My past favourite was Aquolina ‘Pink Sugar’ but would like something a little more mature now that I’m in my thirties.

I dabbled with Vera Wang’s ‘Princess’ for a couple of years but recently decided that it was too old so it got tossed. Now, I am perfume-less.

I like the idea of having a distinct smell that reminds people of me even if I’m not around!

Especially having kids, it’s almost like nostalgia for them as I get older? Is that weird? Just me?

Over the past 2 years, I’ve been in the process of trying out different scents. I keep heading to Sephora or the Bay to get samples of perfumes so I can test them to make sure that they aren’t too floral for me.

While in store the fragrances that most appeal to me currently are:

Maison Margiela – ‘Replica’ Under the Lemon Trees

This fragrance was nice. Aesthetically, the bottle is so lovely – understated but classic. I think that it’s one that I didn’t really like how it smelt on my skin as the day progressed.
Fragrance Family: Fresh
Scent Type: Fresh Citrus & Fruits
Key Notes: Kalmansi Accord, Coriander, Musk

Giorgio Armani – Si

For a floral-based fragrance, this didn’t irritate my senses too much which is a bonus. I did find it a little bit too strong for everyday use but could see myself using it for a fancier night out. Aesthetically the bottle design isn’t one that I’m drawn to, but for a perfume I do enjoy this one.
Fragrance Family: Floral
Notes: Chypre, Blackcurrant Nectar, Airy Florals, Musky Blond Wood.

Burberry – Burberry Brit

I am obsessed with the idea of Burberry fragrances. Oddly enough the majority of them are more floral-based, but that doesn’t stop me from loving them.
Notes: Italian Lime, Icy Pear, Green Almond, White Peony, Sugared Almonds, Amber, Mahogany, Vanilla, Tonka Bean.

Burberry – Her Blossom

This is the one that I ended up finally purchasing. I only went with a rollerball as I wasn’t quite ready to splurge on the pretty bottle and I think that rollerballs are a more cost-effective option in terms of application. I really like how light this one is, even though it’s floral-based. It’s just very pretty, not overwhelming and I can reapply throughout the day if I feel like it.
Fragrance Family: Floral
Scent Type: Fruity Floral
Key Notes: Dark Berries, Jasmine, Musk-Amber

Salvatore Ferragamo – Signorina

I actually really liked this one. I feel like it’s probably the 2nd choice for me. It’s a little sweeter than flowery which I appreciate. I still have this sample and think that I’ll use that up before I make another decision to purchase.
Key Notes: Nashi, Pear Sorbet, Pomegranate
Heart notes: Jasmine, Cherry Blossom
Base Notes: White Musk, Sandalwood

I won’t lie when I say that I’m obsessed with the aesthetics of the bottles too. Those do play a part in my choices as well. I think that the Burberry Blush and the Signorina bottles are the ones that I like the most. I’m partial to Marc Jacobs’ aesthetic but I can’t handle the smell of those ones!

I think that I’m more partial to an eau de toilette over a parfum, the latter being a bit too strong scented. They do tend to last longer on the skin so that could be a game-changer if you prefer a longer-lasting scent.

Perfume is so personal to an individual it’s always hard to describe and figure out which ones work for you. Are you a person who has multiple different kinds for different occasions? Or just one go-to choice?

Let me know what you think!
