Another library haul!
I’m quite enjoying using my library card, and the Oakville Library’s mobile app is fantastic. Easy to use (almost makes it too easy to put books on hold), and sends reminders when things are due or available for pick up. I’m constantly putting things on hold or checking to see what’s new and available.
Back in May I took out a whopping 19 books (and read most of them!). Here’s a quick recap of the Young Adult novels that don’t fit into a series or specific author:
Remembrance (Meg Cabot)
When I saw this cover in Walmart, I knew I had to read it. I absolutely LOVED the Mediator series, and it’s just icing on the cake that you get to see how she’s grown up a bit more. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get into this one… Which makes me sad! Maybe I didn’t really want to know what happened with Suze and Jesse once he became real, or I liked the idea of him being a ghost much more than a real person… either way, I only got a couple of pages into the book before moving on to something else.
The Anti-Prom (Abby McDonald)
A somewhat typical teen chick read, it’s been awhile since I’ve read something so “high-school”. I enjoyed it, and I enjoyed the fact that story was in each girl’s perspective. I liked that you got to know each one separately, and each story was satisfying. Personally, Meg was my favourite girl, and I was definitely pleased with how her story ended. I was definitely left with wanting to read about more of their adventures together! I enjoyed the way the author wrote, and will definitely check out her other novels. I
Monstrous (MarcyKate Connolly)
This was one that I wanted to read when I saw it in the bookstore! It was a cute book, and probably a bit too young for me. For once in my life, I saw the plot twist once I started reading it. Not a huge shock, and I enjoyed the flow of the story. Although, I will say that I didn’t predict the way the story ended. No spoilers, but it was a happy/unhappy kind of ending. I finished this book off in a couple hours, and have no regrets about it.
StarCrossed (Josephine Angellini)
I thought that I would love this book. It took Greek myths and put them into modern day worlds, but I just couldn’t get into it! I’m not sure what the issue was with it, but nothing about this grabbed me in the initial chapters of the book, so I passed this over for other books that I’d taken out.
Anna and the French Kiss (Stephanie Perkins)
I quite enjoyed this book. It lands probably somewhere around teen fiction and summery beach read. Flowed really nicely, and I’m obsessed with anything in Paris. While it wasn’t going to leave you hanging on the edge of your seat in suspense, or plot twists, it definitely was a sweet read. The characters were all believable, and even the drama that occurred was believable for the age group. Plus, the way that it brought up regular teen insecurities was refreshing and enjoyable. Reading as she confronted fears and confronted hypocrisy (in others and herself) was nice. I would definitely check out her other books and give this one a recommendation!
I can’t wait to see how June compares in regards to number of titles, and how many I finish. I’m loving this new book obsession I’m back into.
