Another wonderful charity gala event, another year.
Hard to believe that this will be my third year going, and every year its such a delight to the senses. The National Ballet of Canada definitely knows how to throw a party!
I was running late, so I unfortunately missed the elegant Karen Kain and her address, but managed to sneak into my seat during the applause and right before the first performance. There were 6 performances, all under 10 minutes, with a quick little “break” in between, really just allowing people to get to their seats if they were late. The dancers, as always, are amazing. And they always leave me wanting to learn how to dance like them! The strength and grace that they exude is breathtaking.
This year, the crush of people seemed to be even more than last year, barely room to wiggle past people to get to the bar or the food tables. I managed to sneak a couple of bites of food before deciding to give up on trying to get to the table again. They also had models and actors walking around the crowd, and this awesome gold birdcage with dancers inside! Plus, shirtless masked men. Yum.
I went with Andrew and his sister, who I think had a good time. We took the photobooth pictures (of course!), and waited until they had set up the dining area. Julie and I went in to sneak a peak of the area, and watch the best dressed walk by on their way to sit down. Every year I think, one day! I’d love to actually stay for the dinner and dancing portion. But that might only be in my dreams…
Sadly, the gala means that the ballet season has come to an end. It resumes again in November, and you can read about the 2015/2016 season here! Still haven’t bought my subscription yet, but will be doing that soon! Can’t wait for November.
Mark off this time next year, so that you can get in on the fun as well! It always takes place in June, and it’s always such an amazing event. Ticket prices are reasonable, and you know that it’s going to a good time and you’re supporting something that is a great part of Toronto and Canadian culture. Will I see you there next year?
