The Happiest Place on Earth – Disneyworld, Orlando, FLORIDA!
Last weekend, Andrew and I took off on a quick weekend trip down to sunny Florida to hang out with Mickey Mouse and just get some sun.
It’s so easy to get around down there. We arrived on Thursday morning, after an extremely early morning flight (we were up at 3.30am. I’m never up that early.) and puttered our way through customs. Seems like that morning people were either going to Florida or Vegas. I had a couple second thoughts that we were going to the wrong place for our age, haha.
I did have plans on sleeping on the plane, but our plane was quite small so it wasn’t really comfortable. My legs = super cramped. Best movie selection though – Headed to Disney means that we get a Disney movie! The morning’s choice was one that’s been on me re-watch list, The Aristocats. Winning! We landed just as the movie ended, and upon disembarking the plane was hit with a hot wind. I had forgotten what warmth felt like. And HUMIDITY. Amazing.
We hopped on the Disney Magical Express, the shuttle that takes you directly to your hotel (if you are staying on the resort property). The transportation system of this place is incredible. I could probably write a whole post just on that. But I won’t. Needless to say, the fact that they have buses running from every resort to every park every 20 minutes, is just insane. I’m pretty sure that’s better than the TTC for sure. It makes it extremely convenient, because you don’t need to pay for parking, find parking, worry about getting lost in the maze of roads to and from the hotel and park… So much more convenient.
Once we reached our awesome sports themed hotel, we dropped off our bags, changed into our swimsuits and hit up Typhoon Lagoon. I just want to say that this is amazing for me. I’m totally not a water person, and to actively choose to be in water when it might not be the warmest… Who am I? But it was so much fun. We went on every single slide, and tube ride. We got incredible wedgies, and soaking wet. We went in the wave pool, and Andrew bodysurfed on the 8ft wave. I had a little bit of anxiety and took pictures of him instead. But I want it known, I did go in the wave pool and got knocked around. It was fun, when I wasn’t choking on water (so chlorinated!).
After I had my fill of the wave pool, we just chilled on the sand and did a little bit of drying off, although the sun had started to go down/behind clouds so it wasn’t quite as warm! I was pooped though, at the end of the day. I couldn’t wait to get out of the swimsuit.
This was the only day that we only went to one park, so we decided to grab an Uber taxi and head to a restaurant on the strip. We chose Chili’s and it was so good! There is just something about American food, it’s a huge helping, but it is delicious. Plus, how can you go wrong for the amount of food and alcohol that we had for such a price? I think for the three of us it was under 75$ total. If we had stayed on the park it would have been at least double that amount. Woot woot. We even were able to run across to the CVS and grab some aloe cream, breakfasts, and snacks for the rest of the weekend so we weren’t always eating out.
After dinner, we pretty much crashed as soon as we got back to the hotel. What a crazily busy first day, up at 3.30am without a nap! Done. Onto day 2!
