January & February OwlCrate Box | Books

Some more OwlCrate unboxing!

Since I completely forgot to post about January’s OwlCrate box, I figure I should just knock both out at the same time. That way February won’t be any later than it already is.

Oh me and my forgetfulness. Putting them together means that this will be the last unboxing for OwlCrate for the foreseeable future. I only did a three-month subscription and decided to take a little break for the summer.

January “Fearsome Fairy Tales” OwlCrate

Who doesn’t love fairy tales? I’m a huge fan of the originals as well as retellings of classics. This one was more geared toward the Fairy in the fairy tale, but it was still fantastic.

I didn’t manage to make a video for this one – I thought I did, but now cannot for the life of me find the files. And time crunches are making me just want to get this done and not bother re-filming one. Whoops!

Here’s a breakdown of everything that was in the box!

Gingerbread wax melts from Spireside Candles with an exclusive ceramic burner. These smell sooooo good. I love that it uses a tea light so when I forget about it going it just burns itself out. (I’m always home – don’t worry!). They also will last me a really long time – I still haven’t gone through the first one yet!

A handmade bracelet from Authored Adornments with a Rapunzel quote. This is probably the item that I’m a bit on the fence about, mainly because I don’t enjoy wearing bracelets so I won’t get much use out of it.

An amazing pillowcase from Stella’s Bookish Art. This is a sleeping pillow sized cover, and Sleeping Beauty themed. Who doesn’t want to sleep like sleeping beauty?

A print of Little Red Riding Hood by Anne Lambelet. Yay for more prints! This one is a little darker than I expected but it’s still super cute.

And of course, the book! The Cruel Prince by Holly Black with a signed bookplate.

February “Hidden Worlds” OwlCrate

This box’s theme was Hidden Worlds and was ideal for lovers of the series Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Coraline, and Narnia.

OwlCrate

I did manage to do a vlog of this box, so check it out below!

The breakdown of everything in the box:

A skeleton key necklace, inspired by Coraline, exclusive to OwlCrate.

A soy candle by Books on Candles inspired by Narnia. It smells so yummy too! Plus I love the size. (I couldn’t find a link for this one?!)

The zipper pouch by Risa Rodil, with a quote from A Daughter of Smoke and Bone. It’s quite heavy duty, so I feel like I’ll get some good wear out of it.

The most adorable sticker by Naomi Lord (which I’ve already put on my laptop).

And the big one – the wall tapestry by Evie Bookish. It’s so awesome. It’s currently covering my bed since I don’t really plan on using it as a tapestry – ever.

The book this month was The Hazelwood by Melissa Albert, which is one of the top books on my reading list right now! Still, unread but sitting on my pile. At the top of my pile, actually.

Overall Thoughts

Honestly, I’m not 100% sold on this box. It was a bit of a letdown that I did get the same book as another box. I noticed on the social media that this month was the same book again. I do think that I prefer the FairyLoot subscription over the OwlCrate. But it’s a great box at a much nicer price tag than the FairyLoot.

When is Canada going to get a box like this?
