A Sign It Was Meant To Be

It’s funny how when you’ve really been thinking about something, a moment happens in life that has to do with exactly what you’ve been thinking about. The push needed to make or break a decision.

That actually happened Tuesday night, while I was sitting in McDonald’s with Andrew [a mini date night, if you will] eating some ice cream. All of a sudden this old gentlman comes up and starts making conversation with us. It was really interesting. He was telling us about how you have to have goals and you have to love what you do. He gave us tips on living a good life, and having a good marriage [he’s been married for 43 years!]. In his whole family no one has been divorced, his parents were together for 67 years. That’s crazy! And almost unheard of in these days. Anyways, he was giving us helpful hints, and kept asking Andrew what his dream job would be. Andrew couldn’t answer.

This man was actually great, and such an inspiration even though we only talked for a couple minutes. He’s 78, and walks 3 miles every day to work and back. He’s retired [technically] but decided he loved what he did too much so he’s still working. He’s self-employed, and him and his wife go on 3 vacations a year. She decides where they go, and she gives him at least 5 hours notice. I would love to do that.

This conversation has really pushed me to get better at everything. I went to bed at 11pm, and this morning I was up at 7am. I’m still really tired, but that’s because I’m not eating properly. And I might also be getting sick. But that’s not really the point of this post.

The point is that sometimes all it takes to really jump start something is an old man telling you about his life, and his successes. Besides, who doesn’t like hearing about other people’s stories and knowing that people are still happily married after 3 months… *cough*
