Life :: 5 K-Dramas to Watch

K-Dramas. My favourite things right now!

While I’ve only been on the K-Drama bandwagon for a bit, I’ve been eating them up like crazy. The only downside is that the episodes are so long, that it does take awhile to get through a series. BUT when the series is good, it’s so worth the late night binges on the weekends.

Here are 5 K-Dramas that I recommend (in no particular order):

Madam Antoine

What happens when you have a guy who doesn’t believe in love, and a woman who pretends to be a psychic? He’s a shrink who is out to prove that love doesn’t exist, and she’s a woman who’s been burned by love.  I loved this one. The idea of playing with someone’s emotions is terrible, but she handles it really well and of course, happy ending! I liked how she was able to read people and put it to good use. I found that there were some storylines that didn’t end as cleanly at the end of it, and by the last couple episodes I was bawling like a baby. It was excellent. Available on Dramafever

You’re Beautiful

This one’s an older one, but GENDERBENDER! Her superstar brother went for surgery and isn’t ready for his interview to join one of the hottest bands. His agent digs up his twin sister, and tricks her into pretending to be him. There’s the regular romance as the lead singer of the band finds out she’s a girl, and of course that gets her into some crazy situations. In most dramas, you do feel bad for the secondary romantic interest, and this is no different! I definitely found myself rooting for him even though you know it won’t happen. The feels! It always hits me with the feels. Available on Dramafever.

Faith

I just started this one, and it definitely deserves a mention on this list. It’s SO GOOD. I’m always a sucker for the good time-travel romance and this definitely delivers. She’s a plastic surgeon who is kidnapped by an ancient warrior to save his Queen, who had her neck sliced. She comes back to the Goryeo period, and becomes “God’s Doctor” as they believe that she is from heaven. Of course, there’s the love story between her and the warrior, but there’s also lots of historical information and the political intrigue during that era, since she technically works for the king. And the action scenes are quite good too. Ah the tension though. SO GOOD. She just wants to go back to her time, but I think she’s starting to get a little torn up about whether she really wants to leave. Plus there are so many good actors in this one! Available on Dramafever.

Dramaworld

Now this one is like… every fan’s dream? To be able to go into your favourite drama and help out in the background. Except Claire gets sent there to fix Dramaworld and she’s not very good at staying in the background. I absolutely loved this one. It was quite quick to watch (I binged it all in one night, and didn’t have to stay up until the wee hours to finish it), and while sometimes the acting was a little cringe-worthy, I find that all K-dramas have a little corniness to the acting? But that might just be me. The rules are absolutely hilarious, and the fixes she gets herself into are quite good. Plus, lead character is shirtless quite a bit. And he’s delicious. I found the way that they did this one quite well done, and the way that they characterized the tropes of K-Drama was priceless (Like where she first meets him and gets a nosebleed? That made me laugh so hard). Available on Netflix!

Full House Take 2

This is the first one that I watched ever, so it’ll always have a sweet spot with me. Plus, Tae Ik is super hot even if his ego is beyond. It’s a sweet story, and really interesting in how a pop star is. I truly hope that it’s not an accurate depiction of how his manager is SUCH a controlling jerk to them, but from some stories I’ve read it seems very true to real life. A very sweet story as they overcome obstacles and tribulations together. Available on Netflix and Dramafever.

This isn’t a series, but a movie, but it’s a beautiful story and worth the watch:

Beauty Inside

Wow. This movie just hit me with the feels almost immediately. The idea of the story is amazing. Every day he wakes up in the body of someone else. Man, woman, child, elderly, it doesn’t matter. So it begs the question – do you fall in love with the body or the soul? As he falls in love with a young woman who only sees him as a new customer every day, he goes through the roller coaster of telling her his secret, and her side as it seems like she is a ‘loose woman’ with a new guy every day. A very interesting idea and a great movie. Well acted and well thought out. Not your typical romantic movie, and yet so deep and meaningful. Available on Netflix.

Some ones that I want to check out next are Athena, City Hunter, Heirs, Mirror of the Witch, and Scarlet Heart. I’m going to be watching tv forever. Any suggestions for me? I’m always looking for more!
