Just a little bit late on this ‘what I read’ post!
I’m still riding that Kindle Unlimited high. Another 12 books down. I’ve updated my Goodreads challenge from 50 books to 100 because I’m already at 71 books and halfway through the year. LOOK AT ME GO!!! Although I did jump on the Fourth Wing bandwagon so I’ve got that hardcover to add one non-Kindle book to my list next month.
June’s Read List
Pucking the Team Captain – Zoe Beth Geller
A hockey romance, it was alright. Nothing to really run home about. I feel like I barely remember anything of importance about this one? I gave it 2 stars.
Wolf Gone Wild – Juliette Cross
This was a cute magic/shifter romance. It wasn’t overly memorable, but the romance was cute. I’m not interested enough to actually read the rest of the series about her sisters in the family.
2.5 stars.
Offside – Avery Keelan
Another not overly memorable sports romance. Not sure how I felt about the writing. I don’t think I’ve read anything else by this author.
3 stars.
Iced Out – Veronica Eden
Not really hitting it with the hockey romances this month!!! Another 2 star, not memorable romance. I don’t even remember what happened in the book, to be honest.
Sealed In Marriage – Nanci Novak
This was a definite miss for me. 1.5 stars. It was quick and terrible. The plot was ok but the writing was just oof. Full of terrible metaphors and descriptions… yikes. Just not well done at all.
Mountains Made of Glass – Scarlett St. Clair
Even though I own A Touch of Darkness, I’ve yet to read it. So this was my first book by Scarlett St. Clair. I really enjoyed this book. It took fairytales and mashed them all together and yet somehow just worked? You’d have thought it would have been overdone with the amount of fairytales referenced but it isn’t. I enjoyed the riddles and the puzzle (although I wasn’t able to figure out the word) and the slow burn romance worked.
3 stars.
The Ruthless Fae King – Leia Stone
This whole series is just *chef’s kiss* for me. This is the 3rd book in the series and follows Lucien, the King of Winter. It’s enemies to lovers because he allows untrue rumours to help protect his realm from attacks. Lots of action, an awesome FMC (Madelynn), plus a forced marriage!!! Love it. Can’t wait for the 4th book to be released on Kindle Unlimited.
4 stars.
Curse of the Wolf King – Tessonja Odette
This is the first book in the Entangled with Fae series and I’M OBSESSED. I read basically the entire series one after the other. Fairy tale retellings but all tied together with a couple characters (kind of like the Lunar Chronicles) but with a Fae/human twist.
Book one is the Beauty and the Beast retelling where Gemma answers an ad to work for the Wolf King and gets involved with trying to set him up with Isobel, who is not a nice girl (evil stepsister plot Easter eggs) but she ends up falling in love with him instead. Loved them and their chemistry together. It was about 80% before any kind of smut happened, so a slow-burn romance.
4 stars.
Heart of the Raven Prince – Tessonja Odette
This is book #2 and follows the Cinderella retelling. This one follows Ember, who’s Isobel’s step-sister and is trying to win the heart of Franco, the Prince of the Lunar Court. Fake Dating! Controlling Step-Mothers! Dual POV, so you get a glimpse at Franco’s side and how he deals with his social anxiety as his sister Nyx prepares to retire the crown to him. He falls first and there’s lots of magic and banter.
4 stars.
Kiss of the Selkie – Tessonja Odette
Book #3! The Little Mermaid retelling. The Little Mermaid isn’t my favourite fairytale, but I liked the Selkie angle instead of the mermaids. The concept of the “reality dating show” which ends in marriage was a fun take and showed a little more about the more religious factors of humans who started the uprising against the Fae about 20 years earlier. This one wasn’t too angsty and introduces Briony Rose of the fifth book. Overall I enjoyed it but enjoyed the other books in the series more.
3 stars.
A Taste of Poison – Tessonja Odette
Book #4 is the Snow White and the Huntsman retelling. The Huntsman is hinted at in book #3 and is, of course, hunting Astrid Snow. Her Fae powers are interesting because she is the Magic Mirror. She reflects the traits of the person looking at her and depending on her mood she can portray the good or the negative traits. But because of this, no one truly knows what she looks like. This makes it incredibly difficult for the Huntsman to track her, as he can only go by her scent (he’s a Grizzly Fae). This one deals with drug use to numb emotions and make her “happy” when meeting new people as she runs from her step-mother, who is certain Astrid killed her own father. Lots of twists along the way, this was a good one!
4 stars.
Fair Isle Trilogy – Tessonja Odette
This was the whole trilogy, To Carve a Fae Heart, To Wear a Fae Crown, and To Spark a Fae War. This is basically the prequel to the above books as it’s the war that happened about 20 years before those took place.
Another huge book load for June!
I didn’t get any sequels finished until July, but does reading an entire series count? I’m obsessed and now totally want the special editions she sells on her Etsy page. I will 100% be adding these to my collection. Check out January, February, April, and May’s list of books read with their reviews! I will eventually update my Goodreads but you can see what I rated them and what’s next on my list.
