Around the Home: Closet Renovations | Lifestyle

I’m just a pile of inspiration and ideas over here.

I know I briefly touched on the renovation plan back in January 2021 about putting in a new bookshelf, bed and renovating our closet.

Well, why not bump up the plan and do every closet?

Go big or go home right? Why not just have all the renovations happen at once? Do I have cabin fever with going into year 3 of lockdown restrictions? Yes. To all of the above.

Andrew and I discussed it in more depth back in winter 2021 and actually started to get a plan together we decided we might as well go all in. Let’s redo the boys’ closets too! Are we insane? Probably.

As I update this in February of 2022 (yes, it’s taken me this long to get my s*** together to actually write and post this), progress has been made.

The Prep Work

I immediately started figuring out my plan of attack for the closet renovations. They all needed to be emptied out, so I took a couple of days and cleaned and organized. So much stuff to be donated and or passed down for someone else to use!

Eli’s Room – Before

I went through all the boys’ stuff and got rid of clothing and baby equipment I’m not using anymore. Everything else got put away or put into bags for the basement. Then I emptied out our closet and did the same. SO MUCH STUFF.

Kaiden’s Room – Before

The nice thing about emptying out the closet is that I reorganized my papercraft storage and it’s nice and neat looking for once. Honestly, I just love the excuse to clean and get rid of clutter.

So, with everything into some semblance of order and the closets emptied, it was ready for some demo.

Demo Time

We decided to start with the boys’ closets. We made them both the same size. This meant for a good while I had a hole between the rooms. Eli’s room had a tiny “walk-in” and we had taken the doors down in Kaiden’s room when we first bought the house.

Having a hole between the rooms wasn’t ideal, but wasn’t as terrible as I expected it to be? We blocked it with Kaiden’s dresser but he could still technically climb into Eli’s room if he wanted to.

We ordered custom closets through EnvyMe Cabinetry and I put my foot down that I needed the closets in before Kaiden started school that September. And putting my foot down worked! I got them in and I am OBSESSED with them.

For the boys, we went with a beautiful blue exterior with black hardware. Our closet is going to be black, but we aren’t working on our bedroom for some time to come.

We did 6 drawers on the bottom and a bigger wardrobe space above. They go floor to ceiling so we maximized the usage of the space. It has one shelf at the top, and a hanging rail for all the… boys fancy clothing? (AKA Kaiden’s costumes).

The End Result

Obsession. I love how flat they are. They don’t take away any space from the room. They’re large and have a ton of space for storage and growth for when the kids get bigger and older. I love having a space for everything and the drawers are so large that everything fits. There’s almost too much space (for certain items).

I can’t wait until we start in the main bedroom. Oh, Happy Day!

I feel like I’m constantly going through and organizing and re-organizing everything in them but that’s mom-life? For the foreseeable future anyway, while the boys are younger.

And that’s about it for the renovations that have been completed. We still have A LONG WAY TO GO. But progress is progress. Andrew is almost wrapping up with his major side project/house renovation, so hopefully, that means more time for at-home projects.

I think I’ll do a main post on everything that I’m going to be doing and hopefully doing in the near future!

What do you think? I know I posted it to Instagram like, ages ago but better late here than never?
