Skating on the Rideau

To Ottawa!

Ahh, this weekend was awesome. Friday I left early from work and drove home to pick up some things that I forgot. I ended up not even using them, but that’s alright. Better to have them and not use them, than to not have them at all. Especially since I have a car, and can fill it with whatever crap I want. Woot woot. I drove up, and it was amazing. I felt such a rush driving as I kept reminiscing about the first time I drove up here: With my parents for my tour of Kemptville. College first day. Visiting around the area with friends. Driving back and forth with Mallory and an old roommate. Just all the good memories and the bad. It totally made me feel reminscent and contemplative as I headed into my past with my future. Kinda weird eh?

Anyways, we arrived at the hotel in decent time, and then headed to the restaurent attached for some nachoes and boneless wings (after checking in.. and having some fun… *cough*) and even the restaurant brought back memories! But it was yummy. We headed back to the room and just chilled while discussing how things were going to work on the morrow.

Aw, Andrew and I during our skating. A stop at kilometre 2.

We woke up not as early as we wanted to, and then headed out for a quick Timmie’s breakfast. Grabbed coffee and a bagel, and then headed into downtown Ottawa. Andrew drove this time, which is good because I would have gotten completely lost and frustrated. We actually ended right up at the start of the canal, and parked right outside of it. Pretty lucky. We headed out to the ice, put our skates on and then hit the ice running… well he did. I was a little shaky at first. Not such a fan of going fast on uncertain ice (kinda rough). I warmed up quick though, and we were skating a long at a good pace. At some points he sped up a lot and dragged me along (or pushed me along). We stopped every kilometre to take pictures. I really need a new camera… But that’s another day.

Kilometre One!

Kilometre Three!

Along the way there are all these awesome kiosks, washrooms, food vendors and information about everything. We didn’t stop often, other than to take a small break or two. And to take pictures. It was such a super sunny day, totally perfect. Randomly there was a Subway kiosk (but no Timmies!?!) and so Andrew stopped and took a picture with him…

Yes, there was a Subway sandwich man….

Once we hit the 6 kilometre mark, I was tiring, and really wanted a Beavertail (and yes, that’s part of the allure of going to Ottawa in the first place) so Andrew went and skated on to check out what was happening on the lake, and I ordered us some tails. Mm. Cinnamon-sugar and deepfried dough! It was perfection, especially with some hot chocolate to warm us up for the skate back. It was a good, long skate and it was a great day. Perfect weather, you can’t ask for more. And I didn’t even fall!

Nearing the end!

Our end treat. Mmm cinnamon sugar beaver tails!
Afterwards, we were kinda hungry, so Andrew took me to this burger joint that he ate at while he was working on a job out there. I must say, huge burgers, amazing floats, and so much food! I couldn’t finish my burger, but ordered a cherry float (mmm) and finished that. I think that filled me up! There was also a cute cupcake shop that I stopped in at on the way back to the car, and bought Andrew and I a cupcake (vanilla bean and chipotle chocolate). It was yummy, but I’ve had better. I always find that there is just way to much icing on them. Yuck. The other sad thing is that we got a parking ticket… my first with this car! *tear* ah well.
Lunch time 🙂 Huge burgers.

Then, sadly the weekend was over way to quick. We didn’t do anything that night for dinner, as we weren’t hungry after that huge lunch. We chilled in the room, and watched movies and tv, talked and cuddled. Then we went to bed. Up in the morning for the long drive home. He drove home, and burned through way more gas than I did (he was also driving a lot faster than I was). I was impressed with how well the gas mileage was. I got almost 550 kms out of one tank that cost me $43.00 to fill up. Not to shabby! We made it home in really good time. In time for me to do my homework, and watch the Grammys, and get a little bit of cleaning done… Only a little though.

Heading home, past my old school!
How was everyone else’s weekend?
xoxo
