Review :: Gone Girl (Book)

So I know I’m late to the Gone Girl wagon, but I finally got around to reading it, and here’s my review of it!

Gone-Girl-Gillian-Flynn-Review

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer? – From Indigo Website

**Spoilers Ahead**

I’m not sure how I feel about Gone Girl.

It’s had such hype, and it’s had such great reviews that I feel like I’m missing something.

Was it engrossing? Hells yes. I finished this one off in about a day of solid reading. It was fairly quick to read, and while I wasn’t surprised by the ending, I didn’t expect how she got there. Damn. She is so cold hearted!

I just could not like the characters. Well, I did like his sister, Go. I thought she was the only one with any kind of common sense. The main character was just creepy as hell. And so dumb for how smart she was, once she was in the cabin in the woods and gets her money stolen from her. I did feel bad for Nick, since he was stuck with her. But he was such a dislikeable character that I didn’t pity him too much.

My brother didn’t read the book, but he watched the movie, and he said that he liked the fact that it was the woman who was completely crazy. You immediately think that it’s Nick, but he’s actually the victim in the end. The main question is how does someone get like that? Was it her parents fault? Was it Nick’s fault?

Overall, I felt like everyone was an idiot and that they deserved what they got. Is that terrible of me? I haven’t watched the movie yet, but I think that might be something I get to this weekend, since Andrew is not around. I think that I probably would enjoy the movie better. *shock*
