I love love love Steve Carell’s movies that aren’t his blatently stupid comedy. His movies like “Dan in Real Life” or “Little Miss Sunshine” are completely off the wall, and witty and satirical. If you like slightly darker humour, these are for you.
The gist of this movie is the world is ending in three weeks, and he just doesn’t know what to do with his life. He goes along, even though his wife leaves him, and every thing around him is dissolving into chaos. He still goes to work, and does his normal daily routine. He then meets Penny [Keira Knightley, who is utterly perfect for this role and such an amazing actress], and everything changes for him. He finally goes on this adventure-journey to find his first true love, and along the way meets some pretty crazy people, and comes to terms with the fact that the world is ending.
Heartwarming/heartbreaking because it is the end of the world, it really makes you think about what would you do in that same situation. Would you go on a magnificent journey to find your past? Or are you happy enough with the way you decided to live your life and have no regrets? I personally hope that I’m in the latter category.
I think that I’d have the normal regrets of not doing enough in my life while I had the chance, but I wouldn’t change who I’d be with at the end. It definitely made me want to curl up with Andrew, and if the world was ending, I definitely want to end it with him.
