Books :: Old Norse Mythology

Norse mythology. Something about this just makes me SO EXCITED.

I don’t talk to much about it, but it is something that I do want to start incorporating more into my blog, and that’s spirituality.

But what does Norse mythology have to do with spirituality, you might be asking.

Oh, oh I’ll tell you. This is my research. I’ve always felt a strong pull to the Vanir Goddess, Freyja. She was who I identified with when I was 16, and now that I’m back at it, at 26 she’s still who I identify most strongly with. I have a couple, but she’s what I would call my patron goddess. I’ve done some online research, but I’m going back to the roots of mythology. Digging deep.

I’m using The Saga of the Volsungs, The Poetic Edda by Snorri SturlssonThe Song of Vikings by , for right now.

It’s surprisingly (or not.. depending) difficult to find concrete information about Freyja. She’s a little more obscure, and there isn’t that much information about her. I’ve just started reading them, and I’ve got a couple in my shopping cart to purchase as well, but I’m excited. I’ll probably be purchasing them soon (waiting until next month’s budget though!).

I’ve been putting off getting into them though, because I have other books that need to be read first, but I’m definitely going to be starting them while vegging out at the cottage. Because nothing says relaxed like some Old Norse mythology.
