Books :: How to Keep Reading

It’s funny when you think back to being in school, and how much time you seemed to have.

When you were a kid, time wasn’t really a concern. Sure, you had a curfew or a bed time probably, and you had things that you needed to “schedule” – school, homework, extracurricular activities, etc. But it never really seemed to take up that much time. I always seemed to have time to read a book, or watch that movie, or hang out with friends.

I remember during the summer vacations I’d go to the library once a week, take out about 30 books of varying lengths, and finish them by the following week. I went through a lot of books in the summertime. Now, it’s to be expected that since I don’t have 2 months free of responsibility anymore I’m not going through as many books, but what happened to that girl that didn’t want to do anything but read all the time?

Nowadays, something else always gets prioritized before hand. And, I won’t lie, tv gets put ahead quite a bit. It’s just easy! Not better, but easy. Plus, I get so sucked into some shows (I’m talking about you, True Blood and Black Sails).

Something that I was thinking about the other day, is audiobooks. Since I don’t make the time to get as much reading in as I used to, perhaps looking into audiobooks is that way to go. Then I can have them going while I do dishes, cook dinner, drive home. They take a lot longer, but they’re probably more convenient! Any suggestions for me to start with?

I look forward to seeing how this goes, even though I’m such a traditionalist when it comes to reading! Do you listen to audiobooks?
