Benefit’s release of two new products to compliment the They’re Real! mascara: The Push Up Liner, debuting in July; and The They’re Real! Remover, set to be released soon.
Last week, when the lovely ladies at SparkSessions hosted their first Twitter party regarding SEO, I participated and ending up winning one of their prizes! A couple of days later I was sent the Benefit “They’re Real” collection – the mascara, the new eye liner, and the new make up remover. I couldn’t wait to try these out, and I didn’t even know that they were making a new make up remover. I won’t lie that I was just a little bit skeptical of the remover, as I didn’t find that the one they currently have actually did anything amazing. But, for the sake of beauty, I kept an open mind.
They’re Real! Mascara
I’ve bought this mascara many times, and it’s pretty much a go-to for when I need that extra oomph for a night out. I have a love-hate relationship with this mascara. I love love love what it does for my lashes, but I hate with a passion having to remove it. I find that it didn’t matter what remover I used: soap and water, oil based remover, water based remover… It just didn’t seem to get rid of it. I was still finding trace bits when I rubbed my eyes coming off days later. I’m looking forward to adding this to my repertoire again, although I do find it’s a little bit much for day wear…
They’re Real! Push Up Liner
Is the hype real? I have to say that I’ve never really been a fan of gel liner. I dabbled in it with Maybelline’s pots but it was annoying to have to have the pot and the brush and I was always terrible with taking care of the brush so it would be like a toothpick the next time I went to use it. I was always a fan of liquid, and once it hit pen form I never looked back.
I’ve now used this a couple times, and maybe it’s just me but I have a really hard time using this. I love the staying power – all day and no smudges to my upper eyelid, this stuff doesn’t move [with a primer or some kind of base]. But applying it is just not the easiest thing for me. I’m sure it’ll just take some practice. I love the ease in which is it to get product, just twist the bottom? Genius! At some points during application, I almost feel like the applicator tip is too flexible, as it’s easy to lose control of the angle. I’ve yet to master getting it right next to my lash line as well. Another huge plus in my books is that the applicator is pointed, so no matter what direction you apply it, you can get a cat eye flick at the end. And you can go over your line a couple of times to touch up and it just fills in colour, doesn’t remove it or get sticky.
I definitely am looking forward to getting better at using this product, and I hope that it becomes a favourite. At this point – I’m still not sure if it beats out my regular liquid liner pen!
They’re Real! Remover
I have to say that reading the instructions are misleading. “Saturate a cotton pad, and gently wipe your eyelid.” First, it’s not a liquid so saturation is a bit weird. It’s more cream based, so I think that just using a little on your fingertips (clean hands!) and gently massaging the remover over your eyelid. I think that this is easier to make sure that you’re getting all the make up off as well, especially the eyelashes. I did like this product. It was good, removed [almost] all the product off of my eyes, but it was messy. A messy kind of fun though? I looked like I had some major raccoon eyes. Also, if you don’t use a cotton pad, I think that the product will last much longer, and at $18 USD, I don’t really want to waste any of it!
Just a quick look at some lines, and what the remover looks like. |
Overall, the branding is really sleek. The darker packaging, and it’s nice and matte. It feels really luxe to use, and it looks great together. I definitely see myself reusing items from this collection. What do you think of this product?
