Dressage :: And They Say Riding Isn’t Work

Oh man. Am I ever sore. Riding last night is becoming intense and insane. It’s become so much more of a work out that I’m totally not worried about not being able to go to the gym on Wednesdays.

I haven’t talked about riding much lately, so I might as well do an update about le barn. I’m currently riding a horse named Gus, he’s a big, fun, slightly dopey chestnut gelding. He’s giant too, which is a lot of fun, but he’s a lot of work. He enjoys the slow life, that’s for sure. But he’s amazingly gentle and has a pretty level head. Nothing gets to him. A big, loveable giant.

Anyways, he’s pretty young so still in the training part of life, and he’s going really well. But because he likes being on the slow side it’s effort to get him up and driving himself forward. Lot of leg workouts here. And core. I don’t know but lately I’ve been really hot, and I just find that I overheat while riding. Kind of ridiculous.
Last night we worked on getting him to bend better to the right, and omg. My legs are literally dying as I write this. I got inner thigh cramps, which is not fun, and it was just so much pressure. I did though, manage to perfect my whip handling skills. I don’t feel quite like an idiot while using one. Even the small lessons are important.

Aww pretty Gus Gus!
Hopefully I’m only going to get stronger and with going to the gym, maybe riding won’t hurt me so bad the next day! Happy Thursday!
