Dressage :: The Amazing Meritage

Ahhh my lessons are going so amazingly.

Last night I had another lesson, after the week before was cancelled due to the cold. What a difference between one week to the next. One week it’s cancelled, the next week I’m practically riding in a t-shirt. Practically. I was still wearing 2 layers of shirts, but I had my sleeves rolled up! Bare skin was showing!! And I was sweating my ass off. And so was Meritage.

Last night, Courtney was riding her before my lesson, so she was nice and warmed up for me when my lesson started. As I’m usually the one warming her up first, it was a nice change. Having an already warmed up horse means that after I get myself situated and comfortable, and see how things are going, I can just right into the major stuff.

Like the canter. We actually worked on it. And it was amazing. I was able to ride as if she was doing it perfectly, and only tweaking when she needed it. Even going around on her bad side she was amazing. I decided when we were going to stop, because I felt that we were going around great, so I wanted to end that on a good note. We walked out for a good 10 minutes, I was working on her lateral movements [leg yielding, 10-metre circles, etc] and then started doing those things at a trot. More circles, just getting her moving around the arena, transitions, faster and slower. It was amazing.

I think the best lesson I’ve had, ever. Progress feels so amazing.
