Wow it’s been a little bit since I’ve done a horsey update on here, so I guess it’s about time that I did!
So riding has been going really, really well. Last night Meritage was being a little bit of a bitch, but it was still good.
So I guess the newest update with my riding is that I’m tying my stirrups to the girth so that my legs get used to and build up the correct riding position muscles. No big deal, just trying to retrain 18 years of bad riding position I guess.
The first night of trying that my legs were in so much pain, I could barely walk the next day. So I guess my muscles are getting retrained slowly because it doesn’t hurt at all anymore. Although I don’t really want to think of what it’s doing to my ankles…
But lessons are going really well, who would have known that I would be riding and getting along with mares?? Not I. But I’m glad because otherwise I’d be a bit screwed since Debbie doesn’t really have geldings in her schooling line up. Even if occasionally mares have temper tantrums. Although when a 1000 lb animal throws a temper tantrum it’s not a little thing. It usually involves someone falling off. This time I was lucky and she just stomped her feet impatiently. The silly thing is that I was asking her to stop and just stand there. And she just wouldn’t. Talk about making more work for yourself on the hottest day of the summer.
