Music :: AVICII Concert

In the past couple years, my musical tastes have evolved quite a bit, incorporating more of the electronic/dance/trance vibe to my already eclectic tastes. Plus I’ve been really getting into DJ’s and what they actually do.

So when I heard that AVICII was going to be in town, I was excited, but not really setting my sights on seeing him. Until Andrew surprised me with the fact that yes, we were going to go see him. Yay!

I love these types of venues. Although usually they take place at clubs, like the Guvernment, this time due to the amount of people [and so that it could be 16+] it was held on the Exhibition grounds. Interesting. While the event started at 8, Avicii wasn’t hitting the deck until 11, so we didn’t leave until 10. I was prepared to drink, but when we got in there wasn’t anything being served that I could drink [ew beer and rum only]. Also, I was super over-dressed for this event. I was wearing 2 tank-tops and a pair of skinny jeans with my ankle boots, and I was over-dressed. Most of the girls that were most definitely 16 [some even looked younger] were wearing things that I would never be caught dead outside of my apartment in. Tripping out on MDMA, some girls were freaking out, or just lying around on the sidewalk or corners of the venue. Not sketchy at all.

But that’s almost the best thing about these events, because everyone is tripping out on some kind of drug, nobody is really paying attention to how you’re dancing, and there are little to no fights because everyone is so chill. You can let your freak flag fly and there’s no judgement. And Avicii was amazing. I had a great time, and loved the dance music that he played. He did some great mixes and I even knew some of them! Definitely worth the money.

Then of course when we left the venue it was raining, and we walked to a McDonald’s to grab a bite to eat and then grab a taxi home. I don’t want to say that I’m getting old, but oy, I’m getting old. I can’t really take the late nights any more. Andrew and I completely passed out as soon as we got home. And we had a glorious sleep.

Have you ever been to see Avicii or any dj-style concerts?
