Toronto :: 155th Annual Queen’s Plate Race

The Glory. The Prestige. The Fabulous Hats. The 155th Annual Queen’s Plate race happened on June 6th at Woodbine Racetrack. And it was quite the event.

The lovely Trish nicely thought of me when she got invited to the Flare’s VIP Hats and Horseshoes event as her +1. I was so excited to be going to the event, as it has been probably 10 years since I last went to the Queen’s Plate.

It was a great day for the races. Not extremely hot, with a nice breeze [although at some points it was a bit too windy, not good for hats!], but you didn’t roast in the sun while watching the races. I did a little betting, although I didn’t really win big. And I sadly didn’t pick the winner of the Plate.

We did eat delicious cupcakes, and ate hot dogs and popcorn. Nice to know that prices are extremely reasonable, bordering on cheap! Popcorn for $2.75? I’m there! The expensive food places belonged to the food trucks that graced the Hats and Horseshoes area. Smoke’s Poutine, also known as Bribery Poutine for the boyfriend to pick me up.

A thoroughly enjoyable, yet exhausting day, it was great to meet new people and catch up on old times with Trish. Here’s to getting to the races a little more often in the summer. Have you been to the races?
