Do you remember when you didn’t need to have a 15-step nighttime skin routine before going to be?
When you could go to bed without washing your makeup off and wake up fine?
Now that I’m over 30, that’s a pipe dream. I literally went to bed with mascara on before I left for Mexico and I got a sty. I managed to clear it up fairly quickly and it didn’t upset the vacation at all, but I just remember thinking, “Are you serious?”
In my 20’s, I never washed my face after a night out. Never had any issues. Now? Heaven forbid. Honestly, putting makeup on is the main motivator so I do wash my face every night. I’ve always been pretty flexible with my night routine. There are very few times I repeat purchase things when it comes to skincare. Is that a good thing? I don’t know. But something that I love enough to repurchase?
The Sunday Riley Luna Oil.
I had a sample of this – one of the Sephora 100-point VIB rewards. I used it up and actually made the big step to purchasing the full size.
The repurchase was something that I did contemplate for a while. And I wasn’t really going to do it. The Luna Retinol Sleeping Night oil is not cheap. Coming in at $135.00 Canadian for 35mL, it’s definitely on the higher end of the serum spectrum. It’s definitely on par with the Estee Lauder Advanced Night serum, although technically pricier because they have a bigger size than Sunday Riley.
But, it’s very, very nice. I grabbed it while it was on sale, and I have zero regrets. I love the bright blue colour, and I find that it smells a little bit like Earl Grey tea. A little goes a long way and it makes my skin feel so smooth and soft in the morning. This is a new staple in my routine.
I feel like it has to be really worth it to me to make me repurchase because there are so many brands and new products coming out all the time. I’m also (now that I’m in my 30’s) trying to not be as swayed by expensive (or fancy-looking) brands. Sunday Riley has been a brand on my radar for a long time but I wasn’t sure if it would be worth the cost. I have another post coming out because my bestie got me a kit for my birthday about other products from them. Some are (Luna oil) and some aren’t (not a huge fan of their creams). But I’ll get into that in my other post since it’ll be about more of their product line.
As I’m getting older, I’m realizing that more expensive doesn’t mean better. I’ve only ever spent lots of money on certain things that technically last. Purses and shoes. That’s pretty much it. Now, skincare is worth the investment to me. I know there are good cheaper brands (The Ordinary) but the Luna Oil is just so smooth and feels so nice on the skin. Since I don’t need a lot per night, the cost per use is good for me. It’ll probably last me a year which seems like a good investment to me. I don’t know if there’s a dupe that’s cheaper but I’ll try it if there is!
I mean, it definitely helps that it’s a very pretty bottle too.
