Under the Sea. Did it make you want to dance?
My inner voice immediately starting singing the “Under the Sea” song from The Little Mermaid. Anyone else?
Am I like a broken record every month saying that the boxes are stunning? Because I think I am, but they are literally shattering my expectations every month. Every time I think they can’t get any better, they prove me wrong.
Ooh I am loving the turquoise colour theme of this box!
Again, this box kills it with useful items and I am a sucker for a mug.
The big item, of course, is the mug. I know logistically it doesn’t make sense but I do wish that the mugs were just a teensy bit bigger. But then I like my tea by the boatload. This mug has some definite Little Mermaid vibes but is inspired by the series ‘To Kill a Kingdom’ and designed by Gabrielle Ragusi.
We also got a sweet set of ombre metal straws. I have been meaning to pick up some and I love that these have a thin size and a bubble tea size. They have cute little phrases on the end saying’Beach Please’ and ‘Make Waves’.
I love me a good keychain and the Ursula keychain is so pretty. It says Poor Unfortunate Souls and it immediately went on my keys. Love the colour choices for it!
The pencil case with a quote from Sea Witch by Sarah Henning and designed by Ink and Wonder. It’s such a great size, has a felt inside to protect the contents, and such vibrant colours. I say I won’t use it for pencils but then I remember that I’ve ordered way more pens and markers lately. It’ll do nicely for them!
The hair detangling brush was illustrated by Taratjah (my favourite) and I’m actually looking forward to trying this out? I’ve heard good things about this style of brush and I’m back into massaging my head while I shampoo.
Last but not least, the Atlantis postcard. If you’ve been around for a while you’ll know I love postcards. I frequently send them around the world so I’m always looking for fun ones to send to people!
This month I was missing out on the tarot cards as they didn’t make the deadline for shipping so I’ll get a double batch next month!
The September ‘Under the Sea’ themed book is Fable by Adrienne Young.
For seventeen-year-old Fable, the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is the only home she has ever known. It’s been four years since the night she watched her mother drown during an unforgiving storm. The next day her father abandoned her on a legendary island filled with thieves and little food. To survive she must keep to herself, learn to trust no one, and rely on the unique skills her mother taught her. The only thing that keeps her going is the goal of getting off the island, finding her father, and demanding her rightful place beside him and his crew. To do so Fable enlists the help of a young trader named West to get her off the island and across the Narrows to her father.
But her father’s rivalries and the dangers of his trading enterprise have only multiplied since she last saw him, and Fable soon finds that West isn’t who he seems. Together, they will have to survive more than the treacherous storms that haunt the Narrows if they’re going to stay alive.
Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her place and her family while trying to survive in a world built for men. Fable takes you on a spectacular journey filled with romance, intrigue, and adventure.
From Goodreads.
This book is worth the hype.
Another one that I managed to read and review before I posted!
Also, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THESE SPARKLE SPRAYED EDGES? They are amazing and so stunning. Pictures just don’t do it justice at all. I tried my best. This book didn’t have anything fancy under the cover but the art and the edges make up for it. Not a disappointment in the least.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Pirates? Amazing.
I always forget that I actually love reading about pirates. You kind of get a bit of a supernatural vibe from her talent with listening to gems but it’s not really a magical fantasy world.
You definitely get a Hook/mermaid vibe from the book.
Fable is the daughter of the ruthless trader Saint, who abandoned her on an island as a kid and told her to survive. Luckily for her, she was taught by her dead mother how to dive in the ocean and listen for treasure (in the loosest terms).
She finally gets off the island and makes it to her father but of course, there’s intrigue and death and love on the horizon for her.
I thoroughly enjoy Adrienne Young’s works. It’s fast-paced, engrossing, and left me wanting more.
The characters are all likeable. and you find yourself rooting for them. I like learning about their backstories. West is intriguing and even when he does things that are questionable you can’t help but want the best for him.
Fable is not as rough and tumble as she’d like to be, and that vulnerability is nice. It’s also enjoyable to know that she wants and accepts that slightly darker part of herself. She makes mistakes, learns from her mistakes and picks herself back up again and again.
The romance feels very subtle and of course! there are plot twists along the way.
The whole thing ends on a MAJOR cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see how the next book plays out.
This one is definitely a recommend. I don’t think that you’ll be disappointed!
