Get Fresh Energy for Back-to-School Routines & Full Moon Rituals

First Week of School Reflections
Well. Back-to-school, done and dusted.
Summer’s End and New Beginnings
I can’t quite believe that it’s already September and back-to-school season. Where did summer go? It passed in a blur of extremely hot days, lots of pool time, lots of lake time, late nights, and the kids being kids in the ‘hood.
The boys experienced camp for the first time (loved it, huge success), and they kept busy between seeing family and friends. They love running around like hooligans in the neighbourhood with their friends almost 24/7.
Getting Back Into Routines
Earlier mornings, earlier nights. The sun setting earlier and earlier every day.
Does anyone else think this week has been a trial by fire? It’s not like the boys were terrible about going back to school. Indeed, the opposite. They were excited to see their friends and see who was in their class. But the Full Moon is coming up this weekend, throwing a little spice into the first week. But I apparently have kids who think they’re teenagers because apparently they do absolutely nothing at school. Nothing exciting at all. Although Eli was stung by a wasp on the 2nd day, and Kaiden came home with an absolutely scraped-up knee. Great start, right?
But they seem to like their class, their teachers, and obviously, all their friends. It’s been nice to have that little something to force me into a better routine again too.
Family Routines That Actually Help
I’m really trying to start this school year off on the right foot. I’ve been implementing some new changes for the boys in their after-school routine, and I’m REALLY trying to stay on top of the boys to help me keep the house clean(er). I also don’t have the boys in anything other than Kaiden’s hockey on weekends. I am VERY excited about having to be nowhere after school. I’m still going to check out a couple of places for Eli to do gymnastics, but I might use that money for summer camps next year instead.
After-School Reset Rituals for Kids
- I’ve been getting them to take care of their bags and lunches, which makes me clean their lunch tupperware before dinner, which so far has been great because cleaning those are the bane of my existence.
- The boys wear uniforms, so they take their uniforms off immediately and either go in the basket to be washed or put away for the next day.
- I need a better hall closet shoe system, but once I have that, it’ll be easier to put away shoes, coats, and backpacks in their proper places. I looked at one today, but I need to measure (and count shoes).
- If there’s anything home from school that needs immediate attention, it comes out while they’re unpacking, so I can deal with it immediately. This will eventually be their daily agendas.
Honestly, saw this in a reel on Instagram and thought, why not? Easy enough to do! And worth it once all the winter gear starts coming home and cluttering up my foyer.
The Energy of September’s Full Corn Moon
Anyone else feeling those Full Moon vibes?
I’m curious to know what’s going on, if it’s the fact that it’s the seasonal change (summer to autumn solstice time), or just a normal Full Moon, but PHEW. It feels heavy. Just me? The vibe is off. Especially this past Thursday. That day, Eli and Kaiden had their boo-boos, I kept breaking shit, and just could NOT shake the mood. There was no saving that day. It was a “should have gone back to bed” kind of day.
So, while I did a HUGE deep clean of the house over the Labour Day weekend before school, this weekend I’m going to carve out a little bit of time to do a spiritual cleaning. With this coming on the Full Moon? Powerful.
Spiritual Cleansing at Home (sage, simmer pot, crystals)
Set an intention. Sage cleanse the house. Get a simmer pot for cleansing and protection going. Cleanse all my crystals and recharge them under the full moon. And don’t forget to journal about it.
Time to rebalance the vibes in the house. It might help balance some of the silly things the boys have been doing, plus I don’t need to catch any strays. I don’t fully believe that certain music brings negative energies into the house, but I don’t know if I don’t not believe it either, you know? Let’s just err on the side of caution.
Journaling Prompts for Release + Renewal
I just looked it up, and it’s this whole month. Both the Full Moon and the New Moon are eclipsed!?! So the vibes are heavy. And that is what I’m feeling. So while I’m going to do my cleansing of all things, I’m also not going to force the energy in any one way, other than positive. Full Moons are already about releasing the things that no longer serve, but this one feels like it needs to be observed.
Some journal prompts to work with, from the Moonology Diary 2025 by Yasmin Boland:
- Looking at the part of your life being triggered by the eclipse, what do you need to learn?
- Is there someone or something you’re hanging on to for grim death that you know you need to release? What is it, and are you willing to let it go?
- Do you understand that if you let go of toxic things now at the Full Moon, you’ll be in a much better position to start to make some powerful wishes at the New Moon eclipse in two weeks? How would your life look if you released that which is toxic?
This is a Full Moon in Pisces, which is super mystical—time to get in touch with my inner psychic and do some radical forgiveness.
Does this align with your current situation?
I’ll be posting on Instagram stories, probably all day Sunday, although I won’t post about my own journaling. I’m not quite ready to release that to the Interwebs, just the Universe. Something actually came up again this week that I’m ready to release, but still not over it — so I think that’s where I’m going to start.
Hope you join me! Let me know on Instagram if you are planning on doing anything special for this Full Moon Eclipse!
