Home Renovation Update #2

WE’RE ALMOST AT THE RENOVATION FINISH LINE!

For the bedroom, anyways. But that’s the big(ger) one right now. We’ve successfully installed the built-in bookshelves and closet. I have completely moved everything back in. Andrew and I have moved the bed back in so we are currently sleeping in our actual room and the boys have their toy room back!

But first, pictures of the renovation being done!

It’s so funny how we’ve been talking about doing this for almost 3 years but once we committed to it being done it took no time at all. I mean, still took about a month because we were doing it at night and on weekends (when Andrew could work on it) but it really wasn’t that long of a wait. Unlike my basement (going on 8 years *cough).

All the pieces got brought in! EnvyMe Cabinetry did the installation of the cabinets. I love working with Derek and his team. So friendly and had great suggestions about colour and design. Our kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanity are done by them as well. The wood look turned out amazing and adds a nice texture to the room that wasn’t there before.

renovation

I love how fresh it looks!!! It just makes the room look so much bigger than it was. We decided on quartz for the side tabletops and it makes the room feel so complete. I’m still planning on doing a headboard feature with wallpaper, but I’m still on the fence about what pattern I want to use. I’m going to be experimenting with wallpaper mediums to see if I can just make it myself. Now that the bed is in, it’s not a huge workspace to cover.

Having the closet flush with the wall? AMAZING. Game changer. This makes the room feel much bigger and gives an unimpeded view from the door to the facing wall. Not having a dresser sticking out from the wall also helps and it turned out exactly the way that I wanted it to.

I started putting the room back together almost too soon.

But I wanted to clear out the boxes! I was in super purge mode and clean mode. I took all the boxes out of the basement (including clothing) and started sorting them. Mostly it was the clothing that I’d put away for Andrew and me over 2 years ago, as well as the boys’ larger hand-me-downs. I decided that now was the time to go through it and give it another clean to put into rotation or back into storage. My mom is going to be bringing some larger Rubbermaid totes for me to update and get things out of cardboard.

I only had one book that got water/mould damage, so I count that as a big win! I’m still missing at least 2 books though, and I’m not sure where they ended up. I’m pretty pissed about it because they’re matching special editions for the Cruel Prince series.

Before and after the painting! It’s a very light, neutral grey and I love it. It’s probably just a shade lighter than the rest of the house (we’re pretty basic, we like what we like!) and it just keeps the room light and airy. Oh, the side tables are also in! Andrew built a bed base, and we just chucked the mattress on top of that. We were originally going to keep the box spring but decided last minute that it was going to be too high next to the side tables. It’s been a bit of an adjustment having a shorter bed again!

renovation

I love the symmetry of the bookshelf. This is all my book dreams come to life, and I’m SO FREAKING HAPPY that after 8 years living in this house, I finally have a place for ALL my books to be displayed.

Here’s a little before the renovation:

It was so dark and felt so cluttered even though it wasn’t.

And after the renovation!

I’m so happy. I know I keep saying that but I really am!! I can’t wait for the final touches to be done (decor-wise) and then it’ll be perfect. I’m going to check out blinds this week, experiment with wallpaper, and lay out the gallery wall. Oh, I also need to paint my corkboard because tan just doesn’t work in here anymore!

What do you think of the renovation?

Let me know!
