Happy Halloween!
Isn’t this time of year amazing? The crispness to the air, the fun decorations on houses. Kind of makes losing the warmer days (almost) worth it. I still hate the fact that it’s getting colder but the holidays do make up for it.
Especially now that we have kids! It definitely puts a new excitement and wonder to the holidays. I love the feeling of experiencing holidays like Halloween and Christmas for what seems like the first time.
Kids are amazing at putting the wonder back into things that might have felt a bit… stale over the years.
Kaiden is finally at an age that he understands what is going on – especially with Halloween.
He is a boy obsessed. Pumpkins, ghosts, skeletons, spooky anything is right up his alley.
But this year definitely feels weird with the pandemic still happening.
What are our plans for Halloween this year?
Although the government hasn’t technically mandated or cancelled trick or treating, I don’t think that we’ll be “going out”. We probably might stick to the same old routine. We normally go to my in-laws and visit the grandparents, great-grandparents, and some family friends in the neighbourhood. We usually do more driving than walking!
Or we might just see what the neighbours are doing and go over there for a trick or treat moment.
Kaiden is obsessed with Iron Man so I decided to actually buy him a costume. Honestly, the best money spent because he practically wears it all the time. Especially the gloves so he can ‘pew pew’ me to death. I’m going to dig around for Kaiden’s old Minion costume for Eli.
Decorating at Home
I will be the first to admit that I am the worst when it comes to decorating for anything. Even just general house decor, let alone holiday decor. I say ‘this will be the year’ every year. But maybe next year? Maybe next year we’ll actually stay in our neighbourhood.
Hopefully next year the front of our house won’t be quite the disaster it’s been for the past couple of years (gravel driveway, no real porch area) and will make decorating much easier!
I am trying to be better at decorating inside and out but I’m not super domestic or inclined to do it? It’s just not one of my strengths. But for the sake of my kids, I’m working on it! Luckily my in-laws are super on top of their holiday decorating game.
So right now, I’m off to watch spooky movies with the kids (yo, Hocus Pocus) and do some Halloween activities with the kids.
How are you dealing with the holidays during the pandemic?
