I will be the first to admit that I’m very hard on my clothing, once I started doing it myself, that is. I spent most of college throwing every single colour in together so that I didn’t have to spend more money than necessary, and I automatically throw everything into the dryer. And yes, I know that the dryer is the killer of good clothes. For the most part, I didn’t really care because my clothes weren’t anything to special – mostly fads and things that didn’t last past a season anyway.
But now, as I’m getting older [and wiser] I’m spending more money on quality over quantity, and now I want my more expensive pieces to last much longer. So what do you do to keep you clothes looking like new longer?
In this interesting article by Garance Dore, some tips are given about how to better care for your laundry and delicate items. I’m going to start implementing them in my next load of laundry.
Also, to help supplement my laundry process, I purchased a hand steamer. This will help extend the life of my clothing because it’ll mean that I don’t have to put them in the laundry as often. Plus, it’ll get rid of wrinkles without taking up the added space of an iron. [And I’m going to use this on larger items, like the sofa and bed].
